Guest Wee Thomas Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 The title pretty much says it all. The GPS in the US Dell Streak does not find any satellites. This can be replicated by: 1. Goto Settings -> Location & Security -> Deselect Use wireless networks. 2. Goto Maps -> My Location Enabling Use wireless networks is NOT a solution. Just a bandaid to the problem. Any ideas on resetting the GPS or whether the Euro GPS use a different data set than the US GPS SW/FW.
Guest courtlandre Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Have you tried to let it just sit outside and look for satellites for 10-15 minutes? It may be that it thinks its in the UK and is having problems finding satellites... but once it does it may work... maybe... who knows.

So, it turns out that the issue is just very bad coincidences of not having a good view of the sky when testing the GPS - either lots of clouds despite being a very sunny day or perhaps too much multipath with the area where I was standing. It turns out that google maps (which i was using to base my GPS location ability - aside from a GPS app I downloaded) does not use GPS to locate you using the My Location feature. I quickly found that once I was in an area where the GPS app showed I could detect satellites, other apps like FourSquare which can use GPS directly were able to locate me. So mine is a non-issue.

I have similar thing too. My original US AT&T beta ROM gets the signal almost instantly, but for the UK ROM I have to wait a few seconds to minutes to get a lock. Might be something with the A-GPS cell tower positioning.
