Guest Chris_J_Lewis Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Hi, I will be travelling a fair bit in the coming months with my desire coming with me. I am looking for a way to reduce costs of calling the girlfriend back home and was thinking of using VOIP. She will be at home and will have access to the domestic wireless on her 1st gen iPhone. I will hopefully have wifi access in most places i will be staying. I was considering skype, but there doesnt seem to be an android app and fring seems to have had the skype support removed. Can someone suggest a service which is available for both Android (2.1 at present) and the original iPhone. Thanks Chris
Guest FloHimself Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 You could give a Sipdroid w/ pbxes setup a try. Then you should be able to call your girlfriend on skype...
Guest howlep Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 i am using "3CXPhone for Android" which is in the market and also availabale for iphone (http://www.3cx.com/VOIP/voip-phone.html)
Guest kno1 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Nimbuzz is available in the market, this allows you to use Skype, for IM and voip. For calling landlines, I use sipdroid, combined with a SIP account. I like www.voipcheap.com or voipdiscount.com, both of which are just brands from the same company behind voipbuster. I spent around 12 euro's to call for 6 months with them. Remco Edited August 24, 2010 by kno1
Guest albertz141 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.vonagemobile.fbphone from my experience its even better then skype+nimbuzz combo and nowdays that everybody using facebook it's quite simple to use and find your friends.
Guest Rudolfje Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Lindroid works with my VOIP provider. Sipdroid used to work as well.
Guest Elbereth Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) I tried both Sipdroid and 3CXPhone for Android (Edit: I use Fring on the iPod Touch and it works fine, but cannot tell on an iPhone over 3G). 3CXPhone works perfectly even over 3G and Edge (connection is quick and everything works fine). I could not use Sipdroid in all situations so I uninstalled it. Edited August 26, 2010 by Elbereth
Guest Silver Bullet Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Same with me. 3CX has proved to work really well in any situation and even over a 3G connection. Furthermore it integrates very well on the OS. There's also an option as to automatically route your calls through the VoIP if available, instead of the cellular line. That turned out to be very handful to me, expecially when I am in the office, with a WiFi connection available. I don't need to switch to the 3CX interface to talk over VoIP. I just select the contact, hit Call and that's it: 3CX takes over the dialer and issues the call! Cheers. Silver Edited August 26, 2010 by Silver Bullet
