Guest Intenso74 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Is it possible to root my liquid A1 and keep my current rom/settings/apps/etc. I want to root the device, install Titanium backup and then install LCR and restore my apps etc. via Titanium backup. Is that possible? Also, how do I perform a Nandroid backup? I'm completely new to android and rooting, so please explain it in a noob-friendly way  Thanks, Intenso74 Edited August 24, 2010 by Intenso74

There is an option for rooting device. Also nandroid backup is done from there.
Guest torwill Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Is it possible to root my liquid A1 and keep my current rom/settings/apps/etc. Yes on this. Others, I am not sure.

Is that possible? Also, how do I perform a Nandroid backup? Thanks, Intenso74 You just have to follow these steps if you want to install LCR and restore your current settings : - install malez recovery - reboot in recovery ( if you want to be able to restore full system to your current state, do a nandroid backup via recovery, in backup/retore menu) - root your phone with recovery - install busybox with recovery - reboot in normal mode - install titanium backup and backup your apps. Depending on your configuration : If you do not have a liquidE or have not updated to eclair on you liquid s100 (If unsure tell us the number that appears in Settings/About Phone/Baseband version). So if you do no have one of the latest eclair bin file, you will have to flash a new bin file and reinstall malez recovery. - push le LCR zip on you sdcard - reboot in recovery flash zip LCR - reboot - restore your applications via titanium backup Edited August 24, 2010 by malez
Guest Intenso74 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the quick answers. Just one more thing. Can someone tell me how to install malez recovery? Thanks a lot, Intenso74 Edit: I have an S100 with the following rom: Acer_LiquidE_1.100.39_EMEA_GEN1 (Android 2.1) Also, what is busybox? Edited August 24, 2010 by Intenso74

Just install recovery. I am uploading a "ready to click file" to official recovery page. It would be easier for everybody (should have done it a long time ago)

Thanks a lot, Intenso74 Edit: I have an S100 with the following rom: Acer_LiquidE_1.100.39_EMEA_GEN1 (Android 2.1) Also, what is busybox? I'll answer ure queries assuming that ure running windows. Make sure all the drivers for ure phone are installed. You can find them here. First and foremost u need to install the android sdk. get it from the link below and install it: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html Now u need to setup ADB. To do this, you need to enable usb debugging on ure device. To do that, go to settings > applications > development > and enable "USB debugging"... FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY!!! now by default, the android sdk is installed at the location C:\androidSDK\ to check if its working as it's supposed to, connect ure device to the pc via usb, run cmd (by typing "cmd" in the windows run box) and type the following cd\ cd AndroidSDK\tools\ adb devices You should see a serial number pop up, it’s the serial number of your phone. This means you are all set. Now onto flashing the recovery... although there is another way of doing this, ill tell u the easiest way. download the suberboot from here: http://acer-liquid-community-rom-bugtracke...s/Superboot.zip Now download the latest malez recovery image from here: http://code.google.com/p/acer-liquid-malez...overy_0.5.4.img now extract the superboot.zip. rename the downloaded malezRecovery_0.5.4.img to recovery.img and copy this into the extracted superboot folder (overwrite existing file). Now, while the phone is still connected, go into the suberboot folder and run install-recovery-windows.bat wait for a few moments, and ure phone should be flashed with malez recovery. busy box is a set of linux utilities ported over to be run on linux mobile devices.

Guest Intenso74 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 It's not working for me, but maybe it's because i'm using Win7? I enabled debugging. I ran with admin rights and i tried with and without Win XP compatibility mode. The error i get is: (translted, because my windows is Dutch): adb-windows is not recognized as an internal or external task, program or batch file. After that the program asks me if a saw an attatched device with a number etc, but I don't. I tried with and without USB storage enabled.

Just to clarify everything, give post number 9 a read.

(If i do, i'd like to ask malez to put that in the how-to, because if i don't understand, i guess other noobs won't either ) Downloading latest version now... Hey guy, it is a one click installer. No more need that Acer Drivers and usb debugging enable on phone. All the rest in packaged within the installer. It is written in the howto The goal is to keep this as easy as possible (and i think it is) Edited August 24, 2010 by malez
Guest Intenso74 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Ok, i don't know why, but it still gives me the same error with the SDK installed. I switched to XP to be sure, reinstalled the drivers there, made sure i had USB debugging turned on and did the adb devices command test from post9, which successfully showed me a number, but it still doesn't work. I also tried rebooting my windows and phone, but that didn't work either. Help? (This is probably my own stupid fault, but i just can't see where i went wrong.) By the way, when installing the USB driver, a window popped up with: new hardware found. I clicked next and it installed someting. Could that be wrong? Thanks a lot, Intenso74 Edited August 24, 2010 by Intenso74
Guest ginja Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) really? do u mean the one click installer? but that was uploaded just 3 hours ago... yep, been using this>http://www.speedyshare.com/files/23355076/...overy_0.5.4.exe and found on this thread>http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liq...ll-malez-0-5-4/ Unless theres a newer version, but this one worked for me so far Ive been able to root 1.100.09, 1.100.39 and 1.100.71 I wouldn't be using this, if eclair would have let us install apps to sd by default, that's the reason I try every BIN out there for compatibility issues. So far LCR 1.8 is compatible with most of them, with some freezes but not everytime, if not our Liqiud wouldn't be called a ''smartphone''. Even a $2000 PC freezes sometimes. Guest Intenso74 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Oh well, i used the instructions in post 9 and that worked just fine for me. Thanks for those. Still don't get why the easy installer didn't work though... Oh well, never mind. Thanks to all of you, Intenso74
