Guest twrock Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) (2010/12/27 update: Although these roms below are functioning just fine still, if you are looking for a Froyo (OS v. 2.2) rom, have a look at this link: CM6.1-Pulse0.40 Chinese rom.) TWeak ROMs (Chinese support in non-Chinese roms) TWeak roms are "tweaks" of other roms to make them more compatible with my Taiwan CHT8000. They seem to work fine on Pulse hardware as well. I have very limited knowledge and "hacking" ability, so I wouldn't have been able to get anything to work without the great modifications that flibblesan did (FLB and the original Tre 2.1 root/a2sd rom) and all the help he offered to a newbie trying to get the basics figured out. (Thanks man.) These ROMs work on my phone quite well, but I make no promises they will work on anything other than my own phone. There is no warranty expressed or implied that they will work at all for you or that they will not brick/kill/destroy your phone or cause hair loss. As always, YMMV. These roms will not likely be of serious interest to you unless you Chinese handwriting. And if Chinese handwriting is all you want on top of the rom you are already using, there is a "relatively" simple way to do that too. See below for a link to download HanvonCalla IME. I started with the official Swedish Tre 2.1 ROM for my 2.1 update. I have installed TWeak on top of the official CHT8000 2.1 rom update, but you will be wasting available user space if you do that. Because of the size of the Chinese handwriting system, these roms will not fit in the UK T-Mobile partitions. Since I use apps2sd, I'm not overly concerned with space on the phone. For installation instructions, please refer to "The Ultimate Pulse Owners Guide" by Azurren: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...e-owners-guide/ It goes without saying that you should make sure you have everything backed up before installing a new rom. Nandroid backup is your friend. And you should do a full "data wipe/factory reset" in recovery before attempting to install these roms for the first time. If you get a few acore warnings on the first boot, just click "wait". Particularly if you try to do a bunch of other stuff while the phone does its first sync to your Google account, you might overwork the system. Just learn a little patience. Hopefully it will all settle down for you shortly. Modifications and credits for TWeak 0.5b:Note: this is a completely new build of this rom, starting over with the base Tre 2.1 update (updata upgrade), so do a full wipe even if you are updating from a previous TWeak rom.Based on the Swedish Tre 2.1 ROM with root, apps2sd, and swap (swap made possible via the flibblesan kernel)Replaced the stock launcher with ADW.Launcher 1.1.5Edited local.prop settings to enable more languages/locationsTweaked Settings graphics by copying icons from elsewhere, but the primary goal was to make the Power Settings Widget black.Edited the APN list to add a lot more. (thanks TaiwanCHT8k for the list; please let me know if this is working or not)Added TelephoneBell.ogg and Shes_All_That.ogg ringtones.Added HanvonCalla Chinese v. 2.4 handwriting recognition. (thanks TaiwanCHT8k for the know-how)Replaced the Music player (to get the widget I wanted)The following are pre-installed in /data/app: RomManager, SuperUser, Quickboot, FancyWidget, Google Maps, Voicesearch, WifiStatus, Android Terminal Emulator, AndExplorer, Barnacle Wifi Teather, NoteEverything, Agenda Widget, CalendarPad, DorcumentsToGo, Maps, and maybe some others I forgot. Just delete what you don't want.Deleted Facebook, Roadsync, Documents To Go, and SwedishPack out of /system/app (to make room for Chinese IME; just install them from the Market if you really want them back)Replaced the default wallpaperAdded custom boot animationMade the launcher more persistent, reduced ring-delay, and changed the device fingerprint in build.propDownload: TWeak 0.5b Note: If you are using a swap partition, I recommend that one of the first things you do after installing this rom is to adjust the "swappiness". The default setting is 60, and that does not work well for me at all (serious lag issues). 15 seems like a conservative, steady setting, but you can experiment with others. In Terminal Emulator, type the following:su a2sd swappy15Modifications and credits for TWeak (FLB1.6b):Based on FLB 1.6b ROM with swap support (thanks flibblesan; see the FLB thread for details on that rom)Edited build.prop and local.prop with Taiwan/Chinese settingsAdded stock FilemanagerAdded TelephoneBell.ogg ringtone. (loud and obnoxious so old people like me can hear it)Added HanvonCalla Chinese handwriting recognition v. 2.4. (thanks TaiwanCHT8k for the know-how and syquest for the latest version)Edited the APN list to add a lot more. (thanks TaiwanCHT8k for the list; please let me know if this is working or not)Replaced the boot animationReplaced the default wallpaperDownload: TWeak (FLB1.6b) Previous version of TWeak: Download: TWeak (FLB1.5) (prior to swap support in rom) Add HanvonCalla Chinese handwriting IME to other Huawei U8220 roms. Download: HC Chinese IME v. 2.4 *Note: you must have enough space in /system to install these large files. If you get an error while installing, this is likely the problem. It is unlikely that any stock rom (flashed using the upgrade method) will have enough space. You will need to know how to delete apps out of your /system/app folder, or install a custom rom that has already made more space available. Another option is to update your phone with the Tre 2.1 updata, and then install some version of the UK rom. The Tre partitioning has more space in the system partition. Big thanks to Epic-Emodude for his very useful step-by-step tutorial on modifying ROMs. And thanks to all the other people who's work I used and don't even know I did it! My apologies if I did not give credit where it was due. Enjoy! Edited December 27, 2010 by twrock

Guest twrock Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) TWeak ROM (based on FLB 1.5) released. See the first post for download and other details. "Pulse Tweak v.1" is no more. I can't think of any good reason to try to maintain the TWeak rom as it was, when FLB 1.5 is simply that good. (Fibblesan, if you have any problem with what I did, please let me know ASAP; I tried to send you a PM to ask permission to do this, but couldn't get through.) Edited August 28, 2010 by twrock

Guest twrock Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Two changes: 1. I "tweaked" the boot animation to make it "write" the characters according to stroke order. Personally, I like it much better. YMMV. But because of that change, I re-packed and uploaded the TWeak (FLB1.5) file again. It has the same link and file name. I also added launcher persistence to the build.prop, but I'm not sure that was needed. No other functionality has changed. 2. I uploaded a new TWeak rom based on J-MOD. I've playing around with both roms, trying to figure out which one is more stable (at least for me). Since I had done the work already, I thought I'd make it available. Enjoy.
Guest twrock Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Hi Twrock, Thanks for your hard work! But I couldn't download it from Mediafire. Could you please upload it to another host? Eh? Can you still not download it? Is it a temporary thing, or can you never download from Mediafire? How bad do you want it? ;) Seriously though, if you try again and still can't get it to go, leave me another note with a suggested FREE host site, and I'll try to upload it there. But I spent all my time tonight updating the roms, and I need to get some sleep.
Guest twrock Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Announcing the addition of "TWeak (J-MOD1.1ADW)". I decided to try to get "the best of both worlds." Maybe I succeeded, and maybe I just made a mess. But I am using this version at the moment and it is still running well. I'm liking it so far! ;) I am curious to hear from anyone else who uses it about whether or not you find it to be as stable as I have. That's high on my list of priorities. Incidentally, please do a full wipe prior to installation. Not wiping almost always gets me a bunch of fc's and acore warnings. Enjoy!

Guest twrock Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Something strange happened with ADW 1.1.4 while I was using my phone today. After quite of bit of investigation, I can unequivocally say that I have no idea what it was. But, if you experience problems with it, I'd be curious to hear about them. Guest TaiwanCHT8k Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I'm thinking of packing a new rom with ogigi's vanilla expresso kinda like the feel of it
Guest twrock Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I'm thinking of packing a new rom with ogigi's vanilla expresso kinda like the feel of it Excellent! Do it. I'm getting a little bit scared with any of these 2.1 ROMs though. Seems there is always some bug or another cropping up. I'd like to go back and root and apply a2sd to the CHT8000 1.5 B279SP01 rom and see if it is as stable as I recall. (Maybe some of the problems stem from those base level modifications?) Did you ever see a B279 rom that was rooted and a2sd installed? Maybe I can do it myself with all those helpful instructions out there, but it looks even more complicated than what I've been doing with these simple tweaks. Enjoy!
Guest twrock Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 One more thing, what do you think about the ro.build.description and ro.build.fingerprint in build.prop? I never have changed those to match the settings for CHT8000, and it doesn't seem to matter. I did discover that the mnc and mcc settings in local.prop will affect which languages show up under locale settings. The CHT8000 settings will only show English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese. So in the two J-MOD tweaks, the list is extensive. I really do think T-Mobile UK released a ROM that had not been fully modified for their Pulse phones.

We can finally abandon MoreLocale2. I've just googled mnc/mcc a bit. was that 92/466 you were using? So those are very limited. 000 and 00 will create a very long list of possibilities. I have no idea why UK 2.1 official had -1 and -1. ;) Some of the local.prop files will have a lot of notations, which makes it easier to understand what is going on in there. Look in UK 2.1 to see what I mean. kenoboe rooted the original boot.img, but never got a2sd to work. Rooting B279 is very simple with the available utility (I forget the name), but I think a2sd is not going to be so simple. AFAIK, we couldn't get the MCR boot.img files to work. Did you have MCR or other 1.5 modified roms working, including a2sd? Didn't you have to flash the boot.img from the CHT8000 back onto the phone after installing a custom rom?
Guest TaiwanCHT8k Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Time machine might work, you should be able to flash Tmob December Update after applying it worth a try  I was expecting cht2.1 rom which never arrived. Therefore, I didn't bother trying anything until Tmob.hu released their buggy rom at the end of April. (besides, your struggle with recovery scared the hell out of me ;) )
Guest twrock Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Time machine might work, you should be able to flash Tmob December Update after applying it worth a try  Great idea. I think I'll try it some time. I never thought to try it before. I always assumed it wouldn't work on our devices. But the fact that HU, Tre, UK, and CHT 2.1 roms all do work on our devices, might mean the December update might work just fine too. Now with time machine, I'm more willing to try things just to see if they work. Incidentally, after installing the CHT 2.1 rom, I can't get any of the mods based on other roms to work. I think the partitioning is quite different. What do you know about that? I was expecting cht2.1 rom which never arrived. Therefore, I didn't bother trying anything until Tmob.hu released their buggy rom at the end of April. (besides, your struggle with recovery scared the hell out of me ;) ) :( I was such a noob. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I didn't even know what the words meant! And I was so scared that I had done something terrible to my phone and I'd never be able to get it back to "normal". Yeah, fun stuff. Hopefully I'll have some time to play around and see what I can do to get a2sd working on the 1.5 B279SP01 rom. That rom was VERY stable for me. But now I'm not very willing to go back to only having a limit number of apps installed. So I've got to have a2sd. But just about the time I finally get it to work, T-Mo UK will have a really stable 2.1 or the guys here will have Froyo ported! Oh well, it's all a learning experience.

Thanks again! Glad to know that you got it downloaded. I hope it works well for you. I keep going back and forth between different roms, trying to find the most stable one. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of inconsistencies between installs, so it's hard to know where the actual problems are coming from. Good luck.
Guest twrock Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 I'm thinking of packing a new rom with ogigi's vanilla expresso kinda like the feel of it I was experimenting around tonight and came up with something so simple that I was laughing at myself for not thinking of it earlier. I'm getting tired of all of the extra work of getting Chinese modifications onto roms I want to play with. So I just packaged up a simple update with the "critical" changes I wanted to make to whichever rom I might choose to test out. It was way too easy, and I don't have to bother unpacking and repacking each full rom individually or push each set of file independently. This update is small and I can just leave it on my SD card and flash it whenever I want to try out a new rom (install it right after I install a full rom). So, the update has: 1. HanvonCalla (obviously this is the main point) 2. My own boot animation (I took way too long to make that, and I'm going to use it!) 4. Filemanager.apk (so there is a fallback option) 5. My TelephoneBell.ogg ringtone and my preferred notification and alarm (just in case someone removed them from their rom) I suppose you could also add MoreLocales into /data to get the localization options if they aren't a standard part of a rom. Even adding frameworks or build.prop changes would be options
Guest TaiwanCHT8k Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) about halfway done i doubt if you're willing to use it....... :P Edited September 7, 2010 by TaiwanCHT8k
Guest Simon O Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Nice work. You should try and add Traditional & Simplified Chinese to the apps that are currently in English. Or use the apps from a Chinese U8220 rom.

I don't think there is any custom rom for the Pulse/U8220/U8230/CHT8000 that has full Chinese language support so this could end up being quite popular on HiAPK and other sites :P
