Estrongs File Explorer - LAN access

Hi all,

Hoping someone here might have an answer to this problem. Google searches indicate that other people are having the same experience but there has been no clear cut solution (that i've seen anyway).

I really like this app but am having a problem setting up LAN access over Wifi.... I consistently get an error message "Network path not found or Time Out. Please try again".

The scan function in the app does not return any results (maybe app not compatible with current radio version? - 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 with Froyo on HTC Desire [A8181]) so I set the server details manually. I have checked and re-checked the IP address against the details on my Netgear (DG834G) router settings, and again with ipconfig. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app but to no avail.

Target folders have been set to "share" and File and Printer sharing has been turned on. The target PC is running Windows XP Professional SP3. I have been able to establish a LAN connection using other apps (e.g. Torrent FU) but have so far been unsuccessful with ES File Explorer.

Any ideas?

p.s. have attempted the Estrongs LAN setup on stock unbranded Eclair, the Modaco r5 rom and current version of LeeDroid's rom

Doubt it helps much, but I've got a Desire on Orange in the UK on 2.1 (not touched the firmware at all) and I have no problems connecting to my Ubuntu folders using that app. I'm using Wifi also. I've some shared folders using Samba, and I long ago cached the username/password and it seems to work fine. I'd like to help further but I'm not sure how. I take it you can get onto the net on your phone using the same router?

I'm able to connect to my windows 7 shares without trouble, can you access the shares from another computer on the network? Oh and i'm using the DG834G myself too. I switch roms a bit but on MCR8 at the moment and it's working fine still.

Loaky / Poldie,

Thanks for your input guys.

Getting internet access through the router is no problem. I've had a play around with my laptop and PC and found that, although I can see both machines on the respective network pages, I still can't actually access the shares. I've checked that all the sharing options have been selected and even tried disabling the firewalls completely without success.

Oh well, looks like I'll have to surrender and call in the cavalry (the brother-in-law). cheers and thanks again.

Now, where did I put that USB cable???
