My streak and hello

Hello guys.

I recently got my Streak as well and thought that since the community yet is so small I should join one at least to follow up what is new, how to make miracles happen on my streak. ;)

I got my streak on 6th of August, and since this is my first android phone, had couple of questions, which probably are already answered in somewhere previous topics but hopefully people will be able to help me out anyway, though I will keep reading up.

about Swype:

It seems that Swype is not accessible from their homepage any more so anyone has any idea how to get a hold of it, or if not, something similar that works on Streak as Swype does. I got one from somewhere, but it was not very well working, gave me errors about swype program size, etc + wasn`t really working.

Android version:

If I got my streak on 6th of August, I bet it is still running the 1.6 version right? so if yes, is it worth upgrading, and if yes, would I be able to keep all my music files, well basically everything stored on my Memory card?

Navigation:

Anyone has a clue if the navigation works offline as well, or if not, anyone knows any good offline maps which would not require access to Wi-Fi/3G etc?

I'm not sure about Swype any more, afraid you're on your own there!

Yeah, it will be 1.6 - the 2.1 update hasn't been officially released yet, although there is a leaked (presumably unfinished) version on the forums, if you want to install that.

Navigation; Google Maps can't perform the offline maps feature - the only app I've seen that can is NavDroyd.

Slideit is available as trial/buy download in market. Personally I prefer it to swype. Ultimate keyboard also does it, but it's still a bit unstable

Check out Brut. Modded googlemaps and navigation. It will cache .

personally I use rmaps, which will read in a database format map cache, generated on you Pc. Works fine for me.

Otherwise copilot is cheap at the moment. 20gbp and ndrive isalso on the market.

I would wait for the 2.1 official upgrade. Get to know your streak in the meantime, imagine it like a new relationship, best to get to know each other first before you start f***Ing around! :-p
