Guest inamak Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Hi - I have read on the other big forum that Legacy A2SD is causing corruption for a lot of people on their fat partitions. Essentially if you have an ext partition & use a2sd, if you take a photo & connect to pc you can see it, but then if you disconnect & take a second, when you reconnect to the pc & do a disk test in windows/mac (sometiems it will come up automatically), it comes up with partiton corrupted & the 2nd pic dissapears as a result of fixing it. The only way to fix the filesystem so the 2nd pic shows up is to never fix in windows/mac & instead reboot the phone, which causes the phone to fix it properly. The guys over at the other forum have listed pretty much every rom having the issue - does MCR have it also? Can someone test using the steps (taken from that thread - thanks to simemu for original): --------------------------------- Situation: FAT32 + EXT2/EXT3 partition A2SD or A2SD+ activated (as comes with these roms) Clean FAT32 partition The following steps explain how to see the beggining of the corruption. 1) Power on the phone disconnected from the PC 2) Take a photo. The photo is saved in SD in the folder DCIM\100MEDIA 3) Connect the phone to PC and select "Disk Drive" 3.1) Test the disk with Windows. 4) Open the folder DCIM\100MEDIA and you will see the photo taken. This is GOOD. 5) Close the windows explorer and now select in the phone "Charge Only" 6) Take a new photo. The new photo is saved in SD in the folder DCIM\100MEDIA (in theory) 7) To ensure, see the photo in the phone. 8) Connect again the phone to PC and select "Disk Drive" 8.1) Test the disk with Windows. 9) Open the folder DCIM\100MEDIA and you will NOT see the photo taken because windows fixed the file system. You will see only the previous one. This is VERY BAD. 10) Close the windows explorer and now select in the phone "Charge Only" 11) To ensure of this, try to see the photo in the phone. Did you find it? If the 8.1) step is not done, the photo will be seen in the phone when select "Charge again", but if you write a file in this step instead, the SD will corrupt. ------------------------------- I would test myself but my desire went faulty & is currently in for repair
Guest Bisonator Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Hi inamak I feel your pain... I brought this up the other day and got minimal response to my post. It seems this is a known issue for which there is not yet a fix. Another workaround is to use something like EStrongs file manager which allows write access to file shares on your PC so you can copy your files to your desktop/laptop without having to use the sync cable at all. I have had this problem with MCR r8. It doesn't seem ROM specific but seems to have been a problem for me since running froyo (2.2) based ROMs. Fingers crossed someone comes up with a fix soon as I find it much more convenient to just connect my phone to PC instead of the other method I suggested above. Hope this is informative if nothing else! Regards B Hi - I have read on the other big forum that Legacy A2SD is causing corruption for a lot of people on their fat partitions.

Cyanogenmod for desire doesnt have legacy a2sd because of this so they know it is an issue... Thanks for the tip on using Estrongs - guess that is the safest thing to do from now on even if that is less convenient - dont want to risk losing pics! Edited August 26, 2010 by inamak
