Guest dr_sherman Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Hi All, I have a T-Mobile UK HTC Desire (HBOOT 0.80 ROM 1.21) it was purchased on the 24th July. The box says AMOLED but I have read reports that people have a SLCD screen despite what the packaging says. Is there an easy check that I can do to confirm what type of screen I have? I don't want to run into the "black screen" issue when I root the device you see... Thanks, Edited August 27, 2010 by dr_sherman
Guest AusDesire Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Bring up a black screen, with a black image or one of those screen testing apps that show different colours. On a black screen, it will be dead black, no backlight on an AMOLED screen. There will be a glow from the backlight on a LCD/SCLD screen.
Guest dr_sherman Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Thanks AusDesire, I can't see any bleeding light so I guess its AMOLED
Guest Time Sheep Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Why did they even replace AMOLED? I mean, I thought it saved power having the monitor do the lighting itself? It's also a lot prettier  As he said, since AMOLED doesn't need backlight it would be the same as a turned off screen. If it's LCD it'll need backlight and the backligt will be on even though the screen is completely black. Edited August 27, 2010 by Time Sheep

Guest Fightspit Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 I think there is also a better battery life in the Amoled version.

Samsung wants to sell their own stupid Bada Smartphones so the AMOLEDs Samsung produces are first used for them.
Guest MRvandalay Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 i really don't like amoled screen... has these black dots, and the picture is not as clear as on slcd i just got another desire and put them side by side... the picture quality on slcd is waaaay better. amoled display is quite a lot brighter and black is really black... i really can't understand how people don't mind that on 800x480 amoled screen they see these black dots all over your screen, you can't read forums without zoomin in... they just make the screen look so ugly! now with slcd i can brows forums and read without having to zoom in all the time...
