Guest ciscokidinsf Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 After 2 very hard working years, it is time to move on, not only from the Omnia but from what has been approximately 6 years of Windows Mobile (Windows CE 5.0 with a Cassiopeia PDA, WM5 via XV6700 and WM6.1 with the Omnia) I was definitely all over the Omnia when I got it. But between the Verizon GPS fight, the Omnia's poor antenna that has gotten worse as time goes on, and the many re-starts of many programs that only work partially or none at all, it is time to go. The LOVE (and what I will miss): - Can use TCPMP to play nearly every video format - TV-Out is awesome - Themes (I had an WAD iPhone + p.h.o.n.e.x.) - Many ROMs available - Form factor - just right. I always liked it. The HATE: - Despite the new ROM I installed (6.1 lite) GPS required a battery be taken out and back in to re-start - Poor screen visibility in sunlight - Hated the proprietary connection for headphones, power, etc... and the many dongles needed to get things going. - Camera at night just sucked balls - Poor battery life, getting worse every day. - The antenna is very weak and poorly positioned. I could never get Sling Box going due to poor reception. - The WMWifi router required several re-starts just to get going. Random shutdowns as well. And now I NEED tethering. - Just how hard it is to get anything to work. (don't get me wrong, the community here is awesome, but time consuming) - The damned stylus. Moving to webOS via Palm Pre Plus in VZW. The UI is a thing of beauty. Very elegant, better than Iphone is many ways (Yes I know, it feels like I'm picking Betamax over VHS, or HD-DVD over Blu-ray, both superior systems that lost the market battle) But owning a Palm running WebOS is the best of both worlds. And extremely easy to customize. It took like 2 months to get my Omnia just how I wanted it. With webOS, it took me 3 days. Even over clocking is no more than a 5 minute download and restart. A complete system reinstall can be done without even connecting to a PC! And be back to normal in 20 minutes. The only downsides is no TV-Out and No .avi files can be played. Other than that, I'm very happy. The system is very open, jailbreaking not required to install home-brewed apps. Plus, free OFFICIAL tethering! Thanks guys. I'll keep my Omnia as a media player. The Omnia II was even worse. I'll see what WM7 has to offer, but from what I've seen, it won't make me come back just yet.
Guest andrew.mazlim Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Hmm... I'm wondering, are you a mobile reviewer? Because I'm trying to understand the meaning of... ANOTHER pointless topic, that's all. (I can't understand why someone, when he's changing device, have to write a "farewell" letter in this forum...)
Guest chopperthedog Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Poor screen visibility in sunlight As do most devices that came out in 2008. GPS required a battery be taken out and back in to re-start. Errrrr. With DC22 stock gps lock under a minute (with nothing else) uhm battery, take it out? WHAT? Camera at night just sucked balls Can you take any PHONE camera seriously. - Poor battery life, getting worse every day. They only last about a year. The antenna is very weak and poorly positioned. I could never get Sling Box going due to poor reception. Must be your market. - Just how hard it is to get anything to work. (don't get me wrong, the community here is awesome, but time consuming) No problems here. I can accept that somethings just won't. - The damned stylus. Please tell me you didn't have it dangling from your phone the whole time??... Please someone open a stickied goodbye thread..... good day. Edited August 29, 2010 by chopperthedog
Guest blade87 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Here we go again with the "I got a cool new phone and I just want to show-off" thread disguised as "Thank you all for everything - for the ocean, for the trees, for the sky...
Guest lioryte Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 I...Must...Post...Must...Post...Must...Post Really didn't want to spam it, but WTH  The Omnia was top of the line when I got it (Aug 2008). It was outdated after 2 month. Same will happen with every phone. Why or why does people have the urge to inform us of what phone they got and what didn't work for them with the Omnia? Also, "Despite the new ROM I installed (6.1 lite) GPS required a battery be taken out and back in to re-start"- WHAT? Is this for real?
Guest amitsharma.atc Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Please someone open a stickied goodbye thread..... good day. +1
Guest Heintraag Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 And yet another pointless Thanks-for-all-the-fish thread.. If someone changes phone and wants to world to know.. go on top of a large building and scream your lungs out. Trust me you wil feel much better

Guest rabbitinpumpkin Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 LOL. I still have my Omnia after one year and now running Ock's 6.5 23118 Eclipse rom. I'm looking to ditch it next year but I won't even waste my breath on what new phone I get. It's a phone and it worked as expected (although AT&T sucks). Only thing you'll hear me say is a huge thank you for this forum for making this device more tolerable. now y'all have a good weekend!
