Guest twrock Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) Does anyone here have a link to a modified B279SP01 CHT8000 ROM with apps2sd installed? (the last 1.5 ROM released by Huawei for the CHT8000) Rooting it was simple with ChainsDD's Superuser, but I'm not sure I can get a2sd working. It seems I'm going to need to know the kernel base address if I'm going to get it working myself. But I don't know that, and I haven't been able to find information on how to get it. Does anyone know what the kernel base address is for the CHT8000 running that ROM, or even how to go about finding it? (Maybe it is the same as all the other 1.5 roms?) Just for fun and a learning experience, I did it. I don't know why someone might be interested in this, but if someone is, here is the CHT8000 B279SP01 ROM (v. 1.5 "Cupcake") with root and a2sd. IIRC, it is not signed, so install with Clockwork Recovery. Download: CHT8000 B279SP01 su/a2sd
Guest twrock Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) So how do you do it exactly? Install it or "cook" the rom? I'm not sure which you mean. The simple answer to each is: -Install it with Clockwork Recovery because it will install non-signed roms. -I use the zebadger scripts to unpack the boot.img and system.img out of the updata.app file, and then use the DSIXDA Rom Kitchen to "cook" the rom. (I have Ubuntu Karmic installed on a dual boot computer, so it is relatively simple to install the Kitchen there; IMHO installing Ubuntu as a dualboot is quick enough to be worth it, and then you have a backup OS on your computer in case something terrible happens to your Windows OS; of course YMMV.) Generally, I use the outline in this post (below), but since this rom is not swap enabled, I did not do any of the steps involved in unpacking and repacking the boot.img. http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1425509 You can read through the discussions in that thread (J-MOD thread) to get more information, or you can ask more specific questions and I'll try to answer them as best I can. (Limited at best.) Oh, also, IIRC, there was no need to copy the wpa_supplicant.conf anywhere since this 1.5 rom is built differently than a 2.1 rom. Edited October 16, 2010 by twrock
Guest protocold Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Thx for such a detailed reply. Really appreciated. I am just trying to do sth similar on my own, but perhaps with a tre 2.1 rom, add swap kernel and A2SD. :) FLB works but somehow i'd experienced unstability somehow, so I would to cook sth on my own and to get a better understanding on the whole thing.
Guest twrock Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) I am just trying to do sth similar on my own, but perhaps with a tre 2.1 rom, add swap kernel and A2SD. :) I've already done that. :) I have a variety of base roms to work with at this point, including swap and non-swap versions of Tre. I've built hybrid roms with the Tre swap enabled boot.img and CHT8000 system.img that were a lot of fun for me to play with. I haven't uploaded this stuff, mostly because I don't want to "support" it and I don't think there is that much interest anyway. But, once you have a "collection" of boot.img's and system.img's, the kitchen is way too easy to use. Would you like me to upload something, or do you want to try to learn how to do it on your own? Just let me know. And, yes, I believe that the Tre rom was both the easiest for me to work with and "subjectively" the most stable. But the CHT system seems quite good too. I have had some trouble getting a good CHT swap boot.img working. And for some reason I (and it looks like John Porter as well) have had a lot of trouble trying to get the UK rom working well. Good thing Flibblesan knows what he's doing with that one. Edited October 16, 2010 by twrock
