This shoul be working for you, I'd guess. But for the love of god, run this from linux (just download a live cd or live usb image). It is well worth the minor hassle to avoid the risk of running it from Windows.

us cellular htc desire has 2.1 android. Hboot 0.98, Not sure this works on CDMA phone, Dont want brick my phone

How about this site? I was reading it over and it looks like it is compatible with the 2.1, not sure about US Cellular though, I use them as well and a little hesitant if it will brick it. Still lots of reading for me but still looks easier than the old xbox, psp, or wii. Those were pretty easy to do without killing.

better yet, unrevoked ported 'unrevoked forever' to CDMA Desire.

So basically you can S-OFF your device pretty soon, as opposed to the GSM Desire.

This will allow you to flash unsigned zips from (stock) recovery, as well as unlock your NAND. Root is trivial when you have that option.

I would advise to just wait for the port to be released in the next days.
