Help: Rooting a Streak Engineering Sample

Hi Everyone, i'm new to Android, and Dell Streak too.

And unfortunately mine's an engineering sample, which shows following in device info:

Modem (Baseband) Version: AUS_090923_02_BOSS_EVT2_3180

Model Number: M01M

OEM Version: Unknown

Build Number: 77451

Just wondering if i could follow the instructions on top directly to upgrade to 1.6 or 2.1? I do have to admit that i'm still struggling to understand all the jargons, and probably need a more specific instruction.

Holding power and camera button when booting up leads me to an engineering test menu, which doesn't show fast boot option (but allow me to do the factory reset).

I could get to a fastboot screen by holding volume-down and power button together when booting. (holding both volume bottons plus power button leads to nowhere)

But the poster there seems have semi-bricked the device, which scared me a little bit.
