Guest j7seven Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Sorry if I've missed earlier posts about this, but is anyone else experiencing random restarts or shutdowns of their Streak? Sometimes I'll take it out of my pocket to find it is simply switched off and I'll have to power it back on again. Other times, like this morning, I'll be listening to some audio (could be over Bluetooth or the supplied headset, doesn't seem to matter) and the playback will stop - I'll pick up the device to see that it's rebooting. It's still running 1.6 and was bought direct from Dell. I've downloaded the 2.1 update, but I'm going to wait until I get home later to do it. I'd like to think that the new ROM may improve the situation, but it's not clear whether it's a software issue or not.
Guest miker71 Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 yes, although it's only ever happened whilst the device has been idle in my pocket. one time it got stuck on the dell logo and i had to remove the battery reboot it. it hasn't happened to me frequently enough for me to care. i've put it down to running beta builds of 2.1 or pocket pressure somehow making things reset. i didn't run 1.6 long enough to know if it was affected.
Guest j7seven Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 It's happening to me about twice a day. Don't normally have to remove the battery, although I have done that a handful of times. Admittedly it doesn't seem to really happen when I'm actively using the device, but I could be watching a video or reading something in the browser or another app.
Guest vinokirk Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 I get it once every couple of days, im running 6941. Im getting less crashes with this version than any ive tried, but still more than any phone ive ever had! I left my phone last night 100% charged, woke up to findit crashed out on the screen on full brightness on the o2 screen, red hot to touch, took battery out and restarted and battery was empty, after 5 hours! It a bit of a joke TBH, Dell should sort their shi_ out. All that being said its an amazing phone+ its my first experience with Droid and I love it!
Guest j7seven Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I've been experimenting with a few things to try to work out what was causing this, and it seems to only occur when I have Bluetooth turned on, so I'm guessing it's related to Dell's implementation of the Bluetooth stack. Since I'm on a direct-from-Dell unit, I only got updated to 1.6 6267 the other day. It sounds like there are still problems with Bluetooth on the O2 2.1 ROM, but can anyone else try to confirm this particular issue? I found that having Bluetooth turned on and connecting/disconnecting the USB cable could often cause a crash, but it's not consistent and I don't know it there are other factors involved. I must have had the device turn itself off at least 5 times yesterday - at least twice while I was listening to Bluetooth audio on the way to work. Today I haven't turned Bluetooth on and I've had no problems. Sucks though, cos I want to use my Bluetooth headphones!
Guest Ellis Grouse Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I've had this happen a couple of times... maybe 2-3 times a week at maximum? One thing that seems to set it off is hanging up a phone call... not sure if it's coincidence or not, but I've seen it reboot twice practically as soon as I hit the 'End Call' button. To be honest, in day-to-day use it's not really that notable - the two previous Android phones I've had before, Milestone & Desire, suffered this issue much worse (Milestone especially). I feel pretty safe in the fact that my phone is going to be on when I next pull it out of my pocket, though. (I'm running 2.1 MCR, fyi)
Guest MikeF74 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 The reboots were happening 3-4 times a day for me. Generally after slipping the device into my pocket after use, but also randomly. 2.1 (build 8015) has solved this. I was previously using 1.6 (build 6601).
