Problems with pop email Froyo stock rom

I had a couple of important emails today and when I went to look at them again they had gone!

They are still on the server but I would have liked to view them on the road without having to fire up my laptop.

Is this normal for emails to be removed when the inbox refreshes? Is there a way to stop it doing this without messing with Gmail accounts (Don't use it and only got one cuz I have to.)

I am certain that Android 2.1 did not delete messages once they were marked as read.

I am new to the Android OS so please forgive me if I am totally ***king wrong

Cheers

Thanks

Not sure but there may be an option somewhere in settings to automatically delete, if that is checked, that could be your problem. I use pop mail and have no problems and if I remember rightly, I had to uncheck a box to prevent it deleting mail. I'm on froyo.

Thank goodness I'm not alone. Thought I was maybe going mad. My HTC Desire (on Three network) asked me to update to 2.2 last Friday and without thinking I went ahead. Since then I've had the same email problem, initially only with POP email and now also with gmail when used on the Mail app and Google Mail. I too don't use gmail account. I was all ready to take to the 3 Store on saturday morning when it started working again mysteriously. Sunday evening it deleted everything again and has been doing so randomly ever since. As I look at my phone now, it's just done it again. It's only the Inbox that's affected. Anything I have put in Trash is still there, but Inbox items seem to vanish into nowhere. Very frustrating. Fortunately it doesn't delete mail from the server (same as before) so I can still download it to PC. But once it's on my PC I can't download it to the phone.

The disappearing email problem is intermittent and I can't trace it to any settings. I've tried all the usual, switch it off and on, remove and reinsert SIM and SD card, delete and re-add POP email account.

My ISP is Plusnet so don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I too have only had this problem since Froyo.

Other changes with 2.2 that I don't like, include:

All my music (on SD card) seems to have lost the names of the Artist (all showing as Unknown Artist)

The Privacy option on the main menu has gone so I don't know how to access the backup function.

The download didn't give me a chance to backup beforehand, and despite it telling me content would not be affected, it has lost some recently added contacts.

Three customer services have said it needs to go back for a software reflash but I'd like to avoid the hassle of that if possible.

Any further suggestions??

I too noticed this problem as soon as I updated to Froyo. I never had this problem with 2.1 on my HTC Incredible (Verizon Wireless in USA). My POP mails would always stay on my phone mail app, AS THEY SHOULD unless I delete them. This is the way every other email program works: Google mail, Yahoo mail, comcast mail, aol, etc.

Sometimes mail I haven't even read gets deleted from my Android phone even before I have had the chance to read it. Note that I have my phone mail settings set to NOT delete messages from the server. I even downloaded K9 mail, but it too loses all my previous mail. In fact, I had been saving important email on my phone as a reference from months ago. All of it went missing. The Verizon techs have no clue what to do, and many have suggested a hard reset, but a quick Google and read on multiple forums shows that this doesn't work either. Very disappointing. This is a deal breaker for me if Google doesn't fix this problem with their new OS. I may switch to the iPhone.
