Guest LeeJS1 Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 First, some background: I've had the S for 2 months now and about a month ago I applied JG5/Modaco r2 and Mimocam lag fix. All was well, 1800+ benchmark figures and no lag at all. That was until a few days ago.... As I was reading on the device, a number of errors started to pop up, force closes, etc. It stopped responding completely so I took the battery out and rebooted. Straight away I was hit with multiple force close and 'process stopped unexpectedly' messages. Basically, it was an unusable brick. When I took the SD card out the errors were different so, figuring it was related to the Mimocam fix, I decided to undo it. I removed the symlink to the sd card and copied everything to the local data directory. That didn't work, so I did a hard reset. Which also didn't work. Worse than that, I now can't get the phone to connect in any way to the PC so can't reflash and I can't access any settings on the phone because the error messages keep appearing and obscuring the screen. Last thing I tried was repartitioning the SD card to see if the ext3 partition was corrupt and that hasn't helped either. Which is where I am now. What I really want to do is wipe the internal SD and effect a total factory reset but I can't think of any way to do it. I can't access the phone through adb (device not found), Kies (keeps trying to connect but never does) and I can't do it through the phone. I also can't access recovery mode either. I've tried vol up and vol down and the phone just reboots as if it doesn't recognise the 3 button boot method any more. I now can't send it back because it has 'flashed rom' written all over it, especially when a root request pops up in the background. I'm all out of ideas, short of trying to degauss it somehow. Help! Please!
Guest Fuglestad Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Had same problem as you describe, but got mine in download mode. On my phone i have to push vol down then home button and at last power in that order to get in download mode (and hold of course). If i push them all simultaneously it just boots normally.

Yes, I've tried every way I can to get in to d/l mode but it doesn't work. The phone just reboots :P
Guest Matchstick Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) Do you have a terminal app like Connect Bot installed (or can you install one) If so, try running it and connecting to the local device then type su reboot download That should restart the phone in download mode without needing to mess around with button presses. If you have adb and USB Debugging working you can do the same thing with the "adb reboot download" command from the connected PC. (If you want to get into the recovery menu instead of download mode try "reboot recovery") Edited September 6, 2010 by Matchstick
Guest spark001uk Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ok so if you've done a flash and the phone needs a factory reset before it will boot properly, how are you supposed to get it into recovery mode if the 3-button menu doesn't work??
