Guest radddogg Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) The official o2 2.1 update has bricked my streak :P Well I say bricked, it won't get past the dell logo. I can get into fastboot and recovery but both stock recovery and clockworkmod but I can't update the SD card with the original stock rom to unbrick it. As its bricked I can't get into the OS to mount the SD card. I can flash via fastboot but not sure of a command that will allow me to flash to the sdcard. I have tried fastboot -i 0x413c flash sdcard update.pkg/zip but this doesn't work. From what I can tell you can only flash to the internal memory? Any ideas? Thanks Rob Edited September 4, 2010 by radddogg

Thanks Rob do you have the sdk installed? im not 100% on the syntax but from the command line it should be possible with adb its something like "adb push source destination" in cmd: adb devices (shows devices) adb shell (logs in to shell) adb push c:\Update.pkg /sdcard/Update.pkg id get a 2nd opinion if this can be done without rooting and the right syntax to copy over the files. but this is all i can remember off hand. tired sorry you asked to flash not copy! Guest fards Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Don't think you can get into adb with fastboot, but I may be wrong. You can do it with recovery,at least with. Clockwork but I think stock works as well If adb works in stock fastboot then. Adb push yourfile /sdcard/update.pkg In fastboot flash clockwork, boot straight into clockwork, adb push nameofyoufileandlocation /sdcard/update.pkg Go back to fastboot and flash stock recovery. And run the update pkg from stock recovery.. otherwise get a c card reader its much easier
Guest radddogg Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thanks for the ideas and it certainly helped me understand how to use adb. However, although it appeared to work by pushing to the sd card through clockwork mod recovery it still wouldn't appear on the sd card. I tried pushing update.zip and booting through clockwork recovery but it wouldn't show the folder in there either. So I got a micro sd reader and copied the original 1.6 update.pkg and booting through the stock recovery and hey presto, working streak. Now everything is back to stock (including root i believe) I will try the official update again.
Guest radddogg Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) For anyone who gets stuck like this follow the instructions below 1 Get a micro SD card reader 2 Put your SD card into the reader 3 Download the stock 1.6 rom from HERE 4 Rename this to update.pkg and copy it onto your SD card 5Insert the SD card into the streak 6 Hold BOTH the volume up AND volume down buttons while holding the power buttons 7 Now you will be in recovery mode, navigate up and down using the volume buttons. Navigate to number 2 'update software via update.pkg' 8 Press the camera shutter button ALL THE WAY in 9 A new screen will ask you to confirm, press the shutter again 10 Leave the streak updating until it boots into the home screen (note - it will stay at the dell logo a lot longer than usual as it is rewriting the dalvik cache but should take no longer than 10 minutes) 11 Pat yourself on the back and flip O2/Dell the bird Edited September 5, 2010 by radddogg
Guest radddogg Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) link not working Dammit, hotfile is crap. I'm uploading it to megaupload now EDIT - Original link replaced Edited September 5, 2010 by radddogg

I've downloaded the stock 1.6 o.k. but when I put my Streak's 16Gig SD into one of my card readers it doesn't work - i.e. it fails to be recognised. I have two SD card readers a laptop and a desktop PC - each capable of dual booting in Windows XP and Ubuntu. I've tried the 16Gig card under all permutations but none of them work. I've tested that another 1Gig card that I have is readable in both readers on both PC's - and it is o.k. It therefore looks as though the attempted 2.1 upgrade has some how damaged my card - is this possible ? Here's a link to a post I've made on Dell's site that contains more info. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forum...3.aspx#19744953 Have just realised that the 16Gig SD supplied with my Streak is of type micro sdhc format whereas my other 1Gig is only micro SD format. Does this matter ? Do I possibly need a more modern card reader ? Following helpful comments received yesterday [thanks everyone] I tried installing the new 2.1 from the link provided on forum on my 1Gig card - went through first phase of picture of box and arrow pointing at Streak but then failed at logo as before. Tried again using the 'old' 2.1 that came over the wire - failed too in same way. Decided to try the 1.6 version which worked and was back on the web via WiFi in less than 5 minutes. The first thing that happened was I received a notification saying that a download is available - NO THANKS - Will wait until there is some official apology/announcement from Dell saying that a proper tested version is ready. You could just use the 1gb card to do the proprocedure then stick the 16gb one back in after its unbricked. It is not unknown for a microphone as to become corrupted and require a format. Try the 1gb card first though.

Make sure you rename the file to Update.pkg with a capital U as apparently this can cause an issue.

Does this matter ? Do I possibly need a more modern card reader ? it's maybe because your both memory card readers aren't intended for sdhc (high capacity) because some old laptops and old pc with memory card readers are not capable for sdhc cards. try putting your 16gb sd card in your streak and used the streak usb supplied cable to connect to your computer, it might work as an external hard drive, then just drag and drop it to your streak. it worked for me. :P Edited September 5, 2010 by redbishop
Guest redbishop Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Can you send a link for stock recovery? Thanks you don't need the old 1.6 one, just save this new official update into your sd card and rename it Update.pkg ( capital U). this is the official link just press begin download. http://mobileupdate.dell.com/LatestBuild/D...structions.html this worked for me the very first day they got official 2.1. my dell came from unofficial 2.1 straight to official 2.1 without any trouble. i'm using dell streak o2 locked. :P

Did you rename the package as Update.pkg? it will take up to 15 minutes. be sure to plug your streak into charger while doing this. For anyone who gets stuck like this follow the instructions below (edited, from raddogg, thanks) 1 Get a micro SD card reader (sdhc capable) 2 Put your SD card into the reader 3 Download the official 2.1 stock rom from : http://mobileupdate.dell.com/LatestBuild/D...structions.html 4 Rename this to Update.pkg (capital U) and copy it onto your SD card (be sure it's the 98.1 mb package not the shortcut) 5Insert the SD card into the streak 6 Hold BOTH the volume up AND volume down buttons while holding the power buttons 7 Now you will be in recovery mode, navigate up and down using the volume buttons. (approximately 10 minutes). :P

Have tried all the options available at this point but none work - do you know how I can get whatever Windows needs to read / access the Streak's SD card ? Thanks, Phil

If it does then all you need to do is use the instructions in my earlier post to put the stock 1.6 update.pkg on your sd card. Good luck and post back if you need any more help.
