So why is this official O2 update a step back from the beta?

Stupider bigger widgets...the calibration on the g-sensor doesn't work so I can't even play doodle jump anymore...lag all over the menus, takes 50 attempts to sync all my stuff?

STILL no facebook sync?

Am I the only one who wish I kept the beta?

No, you're not the only one.

What I find most irritating is the scroll action in lists. You drag your finger down (say, in Tweetdeck), nothing happens for a second or two, then it suddenly shoots down about 50 messages! This definitely didn't happen in the betas.

The whole thing seems a bit of a mess to be honest. Yesterday, I was in the Facebook app. I wanted to look at a linked video, so clicked it, which took me to the YouTube app. All fine so far. Problem is, 10 minutes later when I wanted to send a text, I tapped the Messaging app and it kept taking me to either the Facebook or YouTube apps! I had to go via Contacts.

No front facing camera, volume buttons not switching properly, laggy system dialogs...

Nice to have 2.1 (mostly for the additional Market apps now available), but it's certainly not a stable release and a poor show from Dell for their flagship mobile product.

Has anyone actually complained to O2 or Dell about it. Its the worst ROM ive ever seen from a manufacturer, its awful.

i would bet that part of the lag is due to eclairs JIT not being enabled, yes its not brilliant in ecair but its still a speed boost (though id rather get froyos jit on their but it doesnt seem to want to play

TBh Paul's cooked version is quick but I doubt he's enabled the jit. So there's something else that's gone wrong with the official.

yea its had too much testing done and things have been made worse, o2/dell should of just released it mostly untested and let the community report bugs

Or even better start working with us!

That way we can really push things forward with this...

Agreed, when companies start working with the community we will see some good stuff going on. Same thing happened with online games, open beta testing

I agree, it is definitely a step back from the beta.

I don't understand why Dell didn't improve the beta at all for the official release, unless they're working hard on Froyo and just released 2.1 to keep us quiet.

I mean, they didn't even include a front-facing camera option in the camera app. Saying that, the shutter speed is better than when it was released, but it is still way over sharpened and over saturated. Whoever coded Dell's camera drivers did a crap job.

Aside from that, the accelerometer is buggy as hell, the whole thing is now slow and jittery and even just switching screens on the home screen is laggy.

Terrible ROM.

I personally think it should be mandatory for all updates to be provided with something very simple but so damn important.

1 file! 1 bloody important one at that...

changelog.txt

not too much to ask for?

i'll give them some headings for the next one...

What we added

What we removed

What we fixed

What we broke...
