Guest Meltus Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) I've put this in the Development section because whilst it is almost fully functional, it still needs a lot of development. Please be aware of this when you download it. I am not to be held responsible for anything that may happen as a result of running this app. Requirements: Root Access & a Custom ROM (StreakDroid 1.8.0 recommended (CONFIRMED WORKING ON 1.8.0)) Built under a 2.2 framework. If you are running anything pre-2.2 please be aware it may not work. Usage Please remember to remove all previous versions of the app before installing. Simply open the app and press the "Menu" button. I hope you can figure the rest out! Enjoy! :P QUICK HANDCENT FIX: Open Handcent, press 'Menu > Settings > Notification settings > Popup settings'. MAKE SURE 'Screen on for popup' is UNCHECKED. Handcent wont interfere with my app from then on :D NEW TO 2.0 Asks for SU Access when the app first loads Fixes some weird error that happens every now and again. Completely re-coded the SMS receiver. Much smoother now! SMS and Gmail Notifications can be turned on or off New settings page - done properly now, wont save anything to sdcard [you can delete your STREAKLED folder now!] Press the 'menu' button when you open the app for settings. Permissions tweaked (should be less LED problems) APK Smaller by 3.5KB KNOWN BUGS Changing orientation during the pattern causes problems. Just don't do it! Notifications overwrite each other. So if an SMS message arrives and then a Gmail, only the Menu button will be lit, and vice versa. Services cannot be stopped (only by uninstalling) FIXED - 2.0 Sometimes all the buttons will end up being lit, not sure why. [sHOULD BE FIXED] TODO Add options for turning the SMS and Gmail notifications on and off DONE - 2.0 Have different patterns for each DONE - 1.3 Improve the UI (sort of) DONE - 2.0 Improve the pattern flashing sequence (sort of) DONE - 2.0 Clean up the code (WIP )DONE - 2.0 Fix orientation issue This will ALWAYS be available for free on here, on Modaco and on my website (see sig) but i have uploaded a 'donate' version on the Android Market Place priced at £1.50, just incase you fancy buying me a beer :( Enjoy :)LookInside.ziplookinsidev2.0.zipunzipme_v2.0.1.zip Edited February 26, 2011 by Meltus
Guest alfonsomm Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 This still needs a lot of development, be aware of this when you install it. I am not to be held responsible for any damage this may cause Requirements: Root Access (tested on 2.1 but build under a 1.6 framework so it should work on 1.6) All you have to do is run the application, hit the home/back button and receive a text (or send yourself one). If your phone is locked it will wake up, dim the screen and flash the home/menu/back LEDs in a nice pattern. It will then turn off the screen and keep the Home LED turned on until you unlock the phone manually. Because it is only the 1 LED that is lit, it should not drain much battery. When you unlock the phone it will also display an "SMS Message Received" message. The Force Close Error has been fixed. Let me know if you still encounter it. I will be adding settings and more patterns soon. Enjoy :P DOWNLOAD - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773742 (If you don't want me to link to XDA, let me know and i'll upload it elsewhere :)) OUT FREAKIN STANDING.....IM GOING TO DO SOME CUSTOM PATTERNS MYSELF ALSO THANKS A LOT
Guest spences10 Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Good work on this Meltus, will try when my streak comes back from repair. Any progress on the louder volume hack? Thanks.

Guest Meltus Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 hmmm, it seems that 3rd party lock screen apps clash with the app and seriously screw up how it works. Not sure how to fix this as they seem to take control of the WAKE_LOCK service and wont let my app use it once they are active. So when the screen wakes up, it wont turn off again :P Might have to find an alternative to just releasing the wake lock but i'm not sure what. I might see if there is a way of forcing the screen to turn off by echo'ing something. Anyone know of an easier way?

Guest Meltus Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 App updated to 'Beta1.0'. It should now work with all lock replacement apps (including No Lock), unfortunately it isn't actually closable yet, you'll need to uninstall the app to stop it >< LED Patterns not yet implemented but will be soon! Enjoy! :P
Guest Paul Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Excellent work meltus! Do you plan to put this on the Market for nice easy updates? :P I'm happy to donate the $25 registration fee to support your work on this and past / future devices. P

Guest CharlieBareham Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Does anyone else use SMSPopUp? This mod was working perfectly until I installed Pop Up and now the lights flash and the home button stays on but once the screen timesout, the home button stops glowing as well. It was working before installing Pop Up. Anyone have any experience? It was working shortly after the install, but then stopped.

Yeah, i thought it would screw up with SMS popup, i just forgot to test it >< I'll look into it though and see if i can find a workaround :P
Guest CharlieBareham Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Yeah, i thought it would screw up with SMS popup, i just forgot to test it >< I'll look into it though and see if i can find a workaround :P It works until the screen turns off. I disabled all notifications from Pop up, and stopped it from turning the screen on, the only option I have enabled is the Pop up so LEDNotification has complete control over the screen.
Guest Meltus Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 UPDATE: 9th September BUG FIX: Now includes 4 different LED flashing patterns to choose from! BUG FIX: If the screen is on when you receive a text, or you interrupt the LED flashing sequence, it will not just light up the Home LED and will instead return to the normal 3 LEDs lit. A 'Donate' version will be uploaded on the Android Marketplace shortly priced at £1.50 if you ever fancy buying me a beer :P Enjoy!
Guest CharlieBareham Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Epic, thanks for the post. EDIT: Just so everyone knows, don't click one of the flashes (when selecting which one you want) and then select another before it finishes because it will lock up the app. This is user stupidity (on my part) rather than a problem! EDIT 2: No idea what the problem with PopUp is, simply uninstalling it fixes it as expected. I can live without it. Thanks for this great app. Will be purchasing the donate version. Oops, i meant to add a "please wait" dialogue there so you can't physically select anything else until it's finished >< my fault, i'll sort that out soon. And the problem with Popup is that it is using exactly the same WAKELOCK method as my app (i think). His is obviously coded much better than mine as popup blocks mine from working :) Gonna have to find a way to 'force' it to work, i'll get there :P
Guest Spike8585 Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Hey, great little app. I didn't even think of this function, until you made an app for it. Thanks! I am running 1.6 (6601) and with the phone locked, I get the nice led pattern, but then when the screen dims again, my home button does not stay on. If I understand correctly, it is supposed to, right? Not a big deal for me, as I plan to move to 2.1 very soon, but I just wanted to let you know, in case you care. Thanks again!

Cool, cheers for the heads up, it could be a problem with 1.6 or it could be that you have some other app running that is also intercepting SMS messages. :P I will be putting a Free version up on the Marketplace in the next few days, just so you can keep up to date easier :)
Guest clickspace Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 (edited) Works great with the No lock widget. Thank you very mcuh. Would it be possible to add the option on a dotate version to turn off the 3 LEDs after the text is read? Therefore I would only have a light when I have an unread text. Guest peekofai Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Hello Meltus, this is a great idea! Started using it and have a suggestion that may or may not work: Even though the streak has no conventional notification LEDs, a lot of apps send commands to turn on leds. Is there a way to intercept those commands and reinterpret them for the streak? E.g. flash red becomes home, green becomes menu and blue is back.. if this is possible, it opens up a whole list of apps that can use the LEDs without having to specifically code For the dell streak

Until we find a way it will always need Root Access i'm afraid :) (EDIT: although i don't know a way, there WILL be a way. Like that LED flashing bug on some 2.1 ROMs, that happens even when the screen is turned off which i can't do, so it must be controlled from somewhere) Good idea though, it would be much cleaner than doing it my way. Works great with the No lock widget. Thank you very mcuh. Would it be possible to add the option on a dotate version to turn off the 3 LEDs after the text is read? Guest peekofai Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I think my suggestion has been misunderstood. I expect meltus's way of controlling the LEDs to remain the same and so require root access. The only new retirement will be a way to intercept when another app is trying to turn on an led (which doesn't exist in the streaks case) and interpret it to mean something else. Also, I don't think you need any specific command to control the LEDs in other phones. Just send a notification and pass a parameter to flash an led. Android handles the rest. If my suggestion its possible, for instance handcent sms wouldn't have to be recoded to sport the streak's leds, but meltus's app will inept its command
Guest Cue_32 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Just tested this on my Beta AT&T running O2 Beta 2.1 ROM. Im using Stock Messaging and Email clients. Messaging LED blinks and the screen lights up temporarily but all lights go off after the screen goes dim again. It doesn't seem to be staying put.
