Guest ANONNY Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 I have a Dell Streak, which has had a little bath. Now it won't turn on :P I am currently drying it some more, however I can visually see some condensation behind the screen. Hope that will go (?) I wanna send it back however... to get fixed, however I am not going to mention (unless asked) that it has been for a very minor swin. I was wondering..... Does the Dell Streak have any water sensitive stickers/sensors within the casing? (I have heard that some phones do. - I didnt see them on the "tear down" shown on IFIXIT)
Guest spences10 Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Dude check this out http://fwd.five.tv/gadget-show/blog/what-t...gadgets-get-wet They did a load of testing on it, looks like using a hoover is youre best bet. Good luck :P
Guest Loconinja Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Yes, the Streak has water sensitive stickers inside.
Guest ANONNY Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Yes, the Streak has water sensitive stickers inside. oh dear
Guest Meltus Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 put it submerged in a bowl of uncooked rice and put in a warm place (not too warm, somewhere like a boiler cupboard). It helps a lot more if you disassemble the phone first. :P No idea about the stickers though, sorry :)
Guest radddogg Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 If it was just water then it should be fine with a good dry, leave it for at least 24 hours in a warm dry area. If it was something sticky or sugary then you are screwed. If it was sugary then stamp on iT and claim on your insurance.
Guest ANONNY Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 I was in plain water I have tried the rice trick, for several days, but when turned on the three LEDs light up and not much else. There appears to be come clouding (or condensation) under the glass. Not much water got into it, as it was in for milliseconds I only have hardware insurance, and not accidental cover. Although I may be covered under house insurance as after all, it is an "Internet Tablet" not a mobile phone (?) Really stuck what to do....... ummmmmmmm

I sent mine back for repair yesterday (not water damage) but the sticker in the battery bay is almost completely gone due to my repeatedly taking it out and putting it back in. I wonder if they try to make that an issue...?

Got my streak back from repair yesterday and this is the first time i have noticed these stickers, wel the sticker in the battery recess at least and my one too is comming away from the casing from the battery rubbing against it.
Guest Dunhamzzz Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 There must be a place to purchase these stickers from!

Guest DellStreakUser Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Don't the stickers usually go red or something when wet? I have done it on a few old crappy phones in the past.
Guest SEI87 Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Don't the stickers usually go red or something when wet? I have done it on a few old crappy phones in the past. i honestly think those stickers are crap.. all of my phones have eventually turned red. even my streak is now slowly turning red. its has a checkered red design on the white currently. i dont know what i do but all of my water indicators eventually turn red..

Guest blankers Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I only got my streak 5 days ago, played with it a bit, then upgraded it to 2.1 and loved it...2 days later I dropped it down the toilet! I was gutted! Took it out and dried it off with paper towels then put a hair dryer on it for about 20 minutes. I put the battery back in and tried it. Initially it wouldn't do anything...so I removed battery, put it back in, pressed random buttons and suddenly it powered up. I waited for the UI to appear, but then couldn't slide the bar....the touchstone didn't respond.....and the screen then started flashing.... oh dear, I thought ( or something along those lines! ) I quickly removed the battery. I was going on a 2 hour drive, so took the streak and put it on the air vent in the car, turned the heater on full, and waited till I got home. When I got back, I put the battery back in and tried it, fully expecting it to be **cked ....but, IT WORKED! That was 2 days ago....and it is still working fine. So take heart....it IS possible to resurrect a waterlogged phone....maybe I was lucky....who knows....but I am one happy guy !!
Guest rovex Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 You can get moisture absorbing chemicals from places like Wilkinsons and other shops that sell random stuff (pound shops, costcutters, betterware). They are usually anhydrous calcium Chloride and sold as damp or condensation remover refills. Place the phone in a container along with the moisture pack and tightly seal the lid, leave somewhere warm. Leave for a few days and give it a try. If the phone is going to survive that will do it.
Guest Niner86 Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 I dropped my streak in a big bath of water on the ship i used to work on. Was impatient as hell and tried to turn it on... Nothing, tried this for a week and still nothing, thought id shorted it earlier and that was it, worst part, no insurance. I was playing about with it bout 3 weeks after i inititally dropped it, got a pen and used it to hold in the on/off button for ages. Bloody thing came on! Worked perfect ever since, try holding the button in for ages mate, worked for me. And my streak got proper submerged! Maybe i was just lucky!
Guest mdmglobal Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 My streak had an unfortunate momentary bath. 30hrs later and its working. First as quick as I could i removed the battery and dried it best I could. Then in a plastic container with white rice. I wrapped a heating pad around the container. In the morning I wiped out the condensation in the top of the container. Shifted the rice and closed it back up. And back in the heating pad. After 12 more hrs repeated the condensation remove and replaced the rice. Back in with heat again. Then six hours later no condensation. Took it out blew compressed air to check for moisture, none... put battery back in and it works. Disclaimer, mine did not get total soaked just the back side but water was in battery compartment. The little sticker in the battery case was red checkered and nearly destroyed from battery removal and insertion. Good luck.
