Which ROM do you suggest?

Hey fellow liquid users,

So I have finally decided to upgrade to a community ROM, I am looking for something simple, with good battery life and possibly overclockable to 960MHz or 998MHz when I like to. WiFi tethering is a plus, and the either lots of user space or ability to install application to SD card.

I have Acer_Liquid_E_1.100.03_PA_ROG

How do I backup my contacts?(most important) as they are stored in the phone, not the sim card, and I like to keep the email addresses of the contacts too.

Which ROM is a good start? and I don't wish for something missing such as video recording is not working on some ROMs

Instructions to help me get started would be nice.

Cheers to everyone and especially the ROM developers =D

Use titanium backup to create a backup of all your apps/contacts/sms/settings…

If you want to stick with Eclair (Android 2.1, as video recording in 2.2 is not working), you can install either LCR or LS… both work well!

Is there like a graphic equalizer for any of the roms up here?

For Eclair ROMs, the main choices are LCR 1.8.x, LS 2.1.x, and Xian LiquidE v1, as well as the default ROM.

For FroYo ROMs, the main choices are Phhroyo (FRF91), XianKoud LiquidF v1 (port of CyanogenMod), and Vache's Desire ROM (don't know how much it works, but if you really want Sense, I guess you can give it a try), but as of now, I would recommend against using a FroYo ROM if you're inexperienced.

As for the graphic equalizer for the default music player (a lot of music players on the Market have equalizers), none of the Eclair ROMs I checked have one, and neither does Phhroyo (I haven't tried Vache's Desire ROM, so I don't know if it has one). LCR 1.7.x had a Dolby app that had a built-in equalizer (I think), but I wouldn't recommend using LCR 1.7.x. That leaves only XianKoud LiquidF v1, which comes with a DSPManager app, but as with all FroYo ROMs for the Liquid right now, it's got its fair share of problems.

If you're inexperienced, I'd recommend using an Eclair ROM and trying an alternative music player that has an equalizer, like MixZing. However, I've attached the DSPManager app from XianKoud LiquidF v1 to this post; I don't know if it'll work with Eclair ROMs, but if you really want an equalizer, it's worth a shot.

I can confirm that LCR does through recovery, haven't tried it out on any other. Changelogs of the ROMs should say if it is apps2sd compliant.

Easiest way to activate apps2sd is through recovery after flashing a compliant ROM (can be done immediately after also):

1) Back up everything on your SD to your computer

2) Go into recovery

3) Navigate to the "Partition/Repair SD Card" menu and choose to partition SD card (swap size=0, ext2=512 recommended, fat32=remainder). This does wipe your SD Card.

4) Once done, navigate to the "Other" menu and choose to move apps to SD card (if you need more space, move apps+davlik to SD card. You can move apps data but it gets slow if you do).

5) Plug in your phone and navigate to "USB Mass Storage Toggle" menu and put everything back onto your SD card from computer (obviously optional)
