Guest MoemenShahawy Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Hello, This may seem my first post in the forum. I'm an owner of a Nokia N79, which will be the reason for not buying any Nokia again :P I was between the iOS, and the Android, and even though the iOS has more apps, I'm so in love with the Android. So I decided to make a search about Android phones, and found out that the latest os, is the Froyo 2.2 which makes the Desire supports 720p video recording. The thing is, I live in Egypt for work reasons, and it seems that we won't have the Froyo update any time soon. The 720p video recording is very important to me. So is there any kind of custom rom or firmware that will make the Desire record is 720p based on the Eclaire 2.1 OS ? if not, do you have suggestion for a phone with 720p rec. that doesn't have to be updated first ? I want to get a phone by tomorrow, but it seems I can't get hold of a decision yet :) So hope your help can help me out making a decision :(

I want to get a phone by tomorrow, but it seems I can't get hold of a decision yet :) So hope your help can help me out making a decision :( Hi heres my suggestion m8:) Your already on MoDaCo obviously so, get your phone, if nessesary downgrade HBOOT, root it, using either MoDaCo guide or unrevoked method, flash the latest stable MCR (Modaco costum rom) which is based on Android 2.2 Froyo which will give you 720p HD video recording and there you go:=) And then you might say well then you can´t make OTA updates from the carrier, well true, but Paul is danmm quick about getting new Android versions integrated into his MCR releases, my guess is without me knowing 100% that his MCR will be quicker than HTC getting an official OTA out to Egypt. I live in DK, and MCR was quicker than waiting around to see the OTA update, which I woulden´t take anyway since my device is rooted, but I would be able to see it, when I was on my stock rom back then. Hope this helps Kind Regards Asselberghs P.S. yes I seem to recall there was a 720p video rec port to eclair how to do it though I am not sure, I had updated by that time. But updating and flashing MCR rom isen´t that difficult so that would be my advice.:( P.P.S. Once you have Froyo based Desire, you will not, nor will anyone else, be able to go up to Android 3.0 gingerbread, IIRC the system by then will require to much hardware power compared to what Desire can deliver so that will any way you put it, require a new and stronger Android device. So update to Froyo will be the last step for the Desire.
Guest EddyOS Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 If you're getting the Desire now it should already have 2.2 on it. If not, once you're online anywhere in the world you can get the OTA update... You can't get 720p on 2.1 as it needs the new radio so the only way of doing it would be a custom ROM but I've not seen anyway yet with 720p video...as an aside, if that's the main reason you want Android then don't get it as it's crap - HTC should've left it off
