Guest radddogg Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) After seeing lots of different guides and struggling to understand them I have compiled a concise and easy to follow guide on fastboot, root, recovery, roms and ADB including lots of download links. The idea is to stop people having to search high and low for a guide on how to do something and to provide easy to follow guides with no assumptions. Sort of like a central resource. This could be downloaded to your device and then all the download links are available wherever you are. Most of it is my own work with inspiration taken from XDA and Modaco. Both forums have done a lot to help me so I thought it was time I gave back. If you have any comments, corrections or suggestions then please email me at the email address in the document. EDIT - Updated the document to PDF only with lots of pictures and screenshots and tidied up the hyperlinks Thanks Rob P.s Paul, if you're not happy with this being posted then please edit or let me know. I have hosted all the files to save Modaco bandwidth.What_you_need_to_know_about_the_Dell_Streak___PDF.zip Edited September 7, 2010 by radddogg
Guest BrumBrum74 Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Thanks for this. Nice to have. Hope you can keep it up to date if anything new happens with updates etc.
Guest Techneut Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Thank you very much for all the good work you've done so far; BUT... could you PLEASE go back to Word, and save your files into the old .doc format instead of into the too new .docx format? Thank you very much in advance; and I am sure you will make many more 'too old' Streakers very happy! Because I am still using Word 2003, I first had to find and apply a so-called 'compatibility update'. Then, I had to download and apply FOUR different 'vulnerability updates'. Now, Word had to convert the 2007 .docx file to a 2003 .doc file, after giving me a warning it could be changed. FINALLY, I am looking at your .docx file, but its original layout looks thoroughly messed up... This new .docx format is just TOO new for all the 'old-fashioned' people like me. Sorry for bothering you, but thank you very much in advance! :P
Guest Asphytxtc Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 I didn't want to start a format flamewar but being a linux user, I choked at docx too... +1 for PDF and thank you very much for your efforts! :P

Guest twe Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Posted this at XDA but trying to do it tonight so I can get to other things tomorrow...... Hi, thanks for the guide but am stuck on one part. I want to basically install a custom recovery and am on Android 2.1. The guide says to browse the Streaks folder via fastboot in a command prompt window, but how do you do that? C and D drives are to do with the pc partitions but their are no others popping up when in Fastboot mode so am a little confused their. "Navigate to your C:\streak folder by typing cd C:\streak and hitting Enter....."

Hi, thanks for the guide but am stuck on one part. I want to basically install a custom recovery and am on Android 2.1. The guide says to browse the Streaks folder via fastboot in a command prompt window, but how do you do that? C and D drives are to do with the pc partitions but their are no others popping up when inS Fastboot mode so am a little confused their. "Navigate to your C:\streak folder by typing cd C:\streak and hitting Enter....."In the fastboot section I give a link to koush's recovery. Download that and unzip it to your pc's C partition and rename it streak. So that the address of the folder is c:\streak. Then when you load up the command prompt type cd c:\streak. cd navigates you to the specified location. Have you downloaded the latest version of the pdf? The latest version contains lots of screen shots and is much easier to follow. Post back with any problems. Regards Rob
Guest twe Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Thanks for the reply, I understand now, will try it out tonight. I did have the newer one but I guess when you got a few family members around your concentration goes downhill! I did get the device rooted and updated to 2.1 etc...

Guest jannism Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 Nicely done. Thank you for taking the time to do this - a really useful resource. This is a great little community - makes owning a Streak so much more than simply owning a Streak. While I'm at it, thanks again to everyone who contibutes, no matter how big or small the contribution.
Guest squeekyjam Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 thank you so much! this guide is very thorough and was extremely helpful in setting up fastboot! good to know there's a good contingent of streak users!
