Cannot get drivers to work with win7

Hi, this is my next exciting issue:

I am attempting to install FLB mod following the instructions in the Ultimate owners guide. When I connect my pulse to the pc via usb it does the usual win7 process and automatically searches for drivers. It finds the device as a generic storage device ie I can read and write to the SD card but it fails to install completely correctly - at least that is what it is saying:

fail.PNG

I wouldn't care particularly except that I cannot get FLB to install, I am assuming this is because my incomplete driver install is causing this step to fail:

Step 5: Open the "install-recovery-windows.bat" (Windows) or the "install-recovery-mac.sh" (Mac) or the "install-recovery-linux.sh" (Linux)

This will open and close very quickly. There is no visible indication that anything has happened on either the computer or the phone. If you get a "waiting for device" or an error refer to the FAQ [here]

Does this sound correct? and if so how can I get the drivers to work? I tried pointing the computer to the "PC-Suit-U8220V100R001C85B003" folder in "T-Mobile_Pulse_21_B815" as suggested in the guide but It said no drivers were found. Do I actually have to install the "pc suite"? I'd rather not just for the sake of a driver.

Thanks

Just select driver update in windows 7 hardware option and take the drivers of the HU or Uk 2.1

Why don't you want to install the pc suite? Just do that, get the drivers, uninstall it. Two minutes.

ok - now I have "pc suite" complete with hideous desktop icon installed, which told me "driver update failed" upon install and still no functioning driver :P

when I tried to point it at the x64 drivers in the above thread it didn't like that either.

In device manager just point to the Vista folder in the PC Suite folder to update each one, the Vista drivers work with Windows 7.

I did so, too and had no problems.

iirc the folder you should be telling to search for drivers in is the called something like vista-amd-64. What does it say when you ask it to search in that location?

Try right-click and uninstall on each of those of those T-mobile 3G phone listings, remove and re-insert the phone, then try that location again.

Thank you for the patience - I think it was mainly my PC being a pain.

I did a system restore, installed pc suite again and it seems OK in that it recognizes the phone now without any error messages regarding drivers. However I still cannot get the custom rom to work. I am trying to put on FLB-Mod v1.5 with ADW.Launcher 1.1.3, i currently have t-mobile 2.1. Is this Rom the correct choice?

I have followed all the steps on the guide, when I get to:

Step 10: Return to the Custom Recover Main menu abd select the "Flash ZIP from SDCard". Select the custom rom you wish to flash, confirm and wait.

My pulse says - E:Can't open /sdcard/flbmod_1.5adw.zip (bad) Installation aborted

:P

:)

Try re-downloading the zip file (Don't open it) then flash it.

It just sounds like the file is corrupt :P

Thanks for the reply

I know I am stinking this place up but I have honestly never had such a headache doing such a seemingly simple thing and I'm not even there yet.

I re downloaded the rom and I think you are right as the zip now seems a couple of mb bigger.

However...

Now the phone won't show up as a USB storage device!! It makes the connect noise when plugged in - shows as connected in devices and the drive shows in disk management although blanked out and with no option to format, it doesn't show in "computer" explorer window at all. I even tried renaming it "m" as nothing else past or present would have used that, it flashed briefly in explorer then vanished again. The microsd is in the phone and showing as formatted and fine. The whole thing seems really flaky and it's maddening.

You seem to be having a load of problems (It's a bed of roses for most people, your really unlucky)

Now, there should be an option to toggle USB in the custom recovery menu. Try that and try plugging your phone into a different USB port
