Guest System of a pWne!^ Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) This is not only happening for me on MoDaCo R8 but on other ROMs too but maybe someone has an idea of what is going on and how to fix it. The problem generally looks like this: I copy a file to my class 6 card and it only writes with 3 - 4 MB/s (on Eclair it was over 6 MB/s). But the bigger problem is, that writing seems to stop after a few megabytes written and it wont start anymore. My system was stuck writing a 3 MB file for 5 Minutes before it got the messages Error 0x80070079: the semaphore timeout period has expired. All I can do is pulling the USB Cable since the Explorer hangs once I try to click on abort and even "safely removing the USB Device" is inresponsible. The card itself is OK: Reading from it is fast (either with the Desire or with an external Card-Reader). Writing to it with my Card-Reader is also very fast. But I do not want to take out the card everytime I have to copy stuff to it. Also: I formated it about 3 times (with gParted on Ubuntu Live CD) with Partition 1 = Fat32, Partition 2 = ext2/3. Has not fixed anything yet. Has anyone a similar problem or even a solution? Using MoDaCo R8 with Apps2SD+ and an ext3 partition on the SD-Card. Fixed Something was wrong with my Desktop-PC. Works on laptop. I was too lazy to figure out what the problem actually was, but it could be either the HTC Desire drivers I installed with HTC Sync or the USB Port I used. My guess is the driver since I never had problems before I rooted and flashed the device (at this point, I have installed the drivers) Edited September 9, 2010 by System of a pWne!^
Guest System of a pWne!^ Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 I tried changing the scheduler of /sys/block/mmcblk0/queue/scheduler to noon and anticipatory (the only available one among deadline, which is the default scheduler in MCR) and had the same problem. So it isn't the scheduler. I have no idea, if cfq may fix this (to check this, I'd need to install a cfq kernel module to MCR first) but since all other shedulers did not change a tiny bit I'm quite sure, it will be the same with cfq. Another interesting thing I found out is, once writing hangs, I even nearly can't use ADB anymore. I'm getting constantly disconnected. So there must be a problem with the USB connection itself. And before I forget: I'm on the lates radio 32.47 (with RIL Update for MoDaCo). Had this on other radios too but not before FroYo. Bootloader is 0.75.
Guest System of a pWne!^ Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 I already was sure the cfq-scheduler won't bring a bit. Now I tried it and I still have the same problem :P
Guest System of a pWne!^ Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 So judging on the amount of replies I got, I'm the only one who experiences this problem :P... So I need to shutdown my desire, take out the card and write the data to the SD-Card directly from now on. What a pitty...
Guest headcleaner Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 this doesn't fix your problem but it might be a workaround. try transfering files via wifi using SwiFTP and Filezilla or some other combo of apps. you'll need a wireless network though. also, have you tried transfering files via usb using another computer. just trying to rule out the possibility of the computer being the bad guy.
Guest System of a pWne!^ Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Oh god, I'm feeling so dumb. OFC it has to work on my laptop but not on my desktop... Trying to find out right now, if the problems are caused by the HTC Sync drivers installed or by the USB Port on my desktop...
Guest headcleaner Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 ah, there we go. hopefully you'll have it fixed within the hour then.
