Guest craigdabbs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I apologise if this has been covered but i done a quick search and found no definitive answers. I have been running the 2.1 beta since it got released and was working very well apart from the wifi bug, i decided to update to the official release and everything went smoothly but i have noticed that when menu popups appear the scrolling is very jerky, laggy and slow. This was the case on both official and the MCR from Paul. Is anyone else experiencing this? and has anyone fixed it? Craig
Guest Asphytxtc Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 You're not the only one experiencing it, I've seen several reports here of slow / laggy menus and fades and experience the same myself. Not really enough to put me off massively, but definitely noticeable. I don't recall seeing this on the earlier leaked builds either so something has changed. If nobody finds anything by this weekend I might try reverting my streak back to a leaked rom and probe out and differences, cant really afford to be without it during the week :P
Guest craigdabbs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 its not a major issue for me either but would be nice for it to be smooth, its not using cpu either while scrolling according to osmonitor cpu meter. Think i could be rolling back to beta build tho :P
Guest mikeqtoo Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 First thing I noticed when I went from the leaked ROM to the official one, spoils what is otherwise a very smooth display
Guest gingernator Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I'm glad others are experiencing this as well but we appear to be in the minority. I wonder why it's not affecting everyone?
Guest Jason Burns Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Same here. Def notice this in the widget menu.
Guest gadjet110 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Hi everyone, try the below and you will find it gets rid of the lag! 1-Dial *#*#307#*#* number into phone keypad. 2-Open up Sapre Parts. 3-Open window animation drop down menu. 4-Select "off" 5-Open Transition animation drop down menu. 6-Select transition speed to "off" 7-To return your Streak back dial *#*#308#*#* into phone keypad. (setting from above saved) Enjoy a faster 2.1 ROM..:P
Guest craigdabbs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) thanks gadjet i will try this once i finish re-flashing my streak. Downgrading my phone to 1.6 via nandroid seems to always get stuck at dell logo lol, after a stock update using stock recovery seems to solve it tho. glad i got a few sdcards :P. So doing a stock 1.6 ---> stock 2.1 now. Fingers crossed i take it this spare parts app is the same as the market one? Edited September 8, 2010 by craigdabbs
Guest craigdabbs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) the opening of the popup menu is faster but the scrolling is still rather jerky, oh well cant do any more than do stock updates and still have the problem. Have to put up with it until next update, hopefully 2.2 :P Thanks tho gadget hopefully more people with have better luck than me. getting some practice with this flashing business at least Edited September 8, 2010 by craigdabbs
Guest gingernator Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Turning animations off is like cutting your leg off if it's infected, it doesn't cure the root cause. I like my leg and I like animations. Thanks for the input though. :P
Guest sukh singh Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Hi everyone, try the below and you will find it gets rid of the lag! (setting from above saved) Enjoy a faster 2.1 ROM..:P Mine had the lag and was already on those settings...I belive I had just turned them off from the normal menu,,,
Guest MikeF74 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I've had the same problem, as I suspect everyone at 8105 has. Turning off transition animation definitely brings up the widget UI faster, but the scrolling is still painful. Please take this with a grain of salt... I'm a software developer, but not a linux/android developer: It seems as if the Android OS's GUI elements aren't using any kind of hardware accelleration -- that it is using just software-based rendering. Other applications however have very fast scrolling. Seems like someone at Dell tweaked a setting they shouldn't have. -Mike
Guest vinokirk Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Anyone getting process errors on apps theyve downloaded from the market place?
Guest fards Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 if you've got ROOT and BUSYBOX installed try this sysctl -w kernel.sched_child_runs_first=1 to see if it helps with the scrolling
Guest craigdabbs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 hi fards just found your other thread :P, i posted my sysctl there and changed as above, still no luck tho :)
Guest fards Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 hi fards just found your other thread :P, i posted my sysctl there and changed as above, still no luck tho :) Yeah cheers. Weird its noticeable difference to me. Did Try the sysctl settings in the speedboost thread ?
Guest adamwalker13 Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I'm getting the lag aswell... I ran 'sysctl -w kernel.sched_child_runs_first=1 ' in terminal with busybox installed, but it didnt seem to make a difference.. I hope this gets figured out soon as its the only thing stopping the 2.1 build from being perfect for me :P
