Hello everybody

has anybody tried to use a 32 Gb microSD on his Acer Liquid? does it support it?

If not, how far can I go buying a microSD? 16gb?

Thanks!

It should accept at least 16Gb and in theory 32Gb. Remind you that more important than the size is the speed. I wouldn´t buy nothing shorter than Class 6 (and that is hard to find on 32Gb).

I'm aware, but I was thinking of using it mainly to store mp3s and videos, a class lower than 6 should just take longer to transfer but I hope it shouldn't affect the player's performances.

Am I right or am I missing something?

Wouldn't be that sure, some say that class 6 is useless because you will never get those speeds.

And class always tell the minimum speed. A class 4 brand A can be faster than a class 6 brand B.

Also note that just because you're buying a Class 6 card doesn't mean you'll get Class 6 speeds: speed is determined by the lowest common denominator between your card and your card reader, so if you're using a Class 6 card in an average cell phone reader, which is almost always Class 2, you'll get around Class 2 speeds. There's an SD Card speed test app on the Market that lets you test the actual speed of your card (though I bought a noname card, the app says I'm getting a Read speed of Class 6 but a write speed of Class 3).

That is not entirely correct. Since VGA 30fps recording and specially when phones started to have offline GPS software (lots and lots of small files) brands like Nokia, Samsung, HTC, etc ask *at least* Class 4 cards to be able to deal with those apps + still be able to read/write system files on the card at the same time (as most OSes allow cache or app installation on SD).

I don´t recall if it was my former Samsung i8910 but one phone I owned even said that if a Class 4 is not detected it won´t allow maximum video recording quality. I also know that several HD DIGICAMs also say the same on the manual or at least say that if the card is slow movies can have variable bitrate with errors. Also higher class means faster controler and it allows much faster small file recording/reading which means that if you own an Android + use SD to cache or use SD to install apps, it´s better to be fast. A phone may not not record at 6Mb/s but it can record several small files fast which a Class 2 won´t be able to do due a slow controler.

Now, you may buy a 32Gb card to store videos/music but one day you´ll try to put on a digicam, dSLR or even a 720/1080p phone and it won´t allow as it´s slow. It´s your call :P
