Guest dareal Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 As in the topic, i would like to resize my existing a2sd+ partition. it was made by rom manager, actually it is 229mb (and ive got 10mb free on it :P) could you please help me to resize it without any data loss? may i do a backup with titanium, then copy all of the card's contents to my pc, and then repartition it with rom manager with a larger space and then copy back the contents and do a restore? or is there a way to resize it with a graphical tool, just like partition manager's graphical partition resizer? thanks in advance!
Guest spammyspam Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Couldn't you just abstract away the phone and use a PC to do it?
Guest dareal Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Couldn't you just abstract away the phone and use a PC to do it? can i do it with gparted for example?
Guest spammyspam Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I'm no expert but I don't see why not. But then depending on the size of your card it might just be easier to copy-format-restore.
Guest BashyUK Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) Hi I'm being daft I know but am completely stumped. I have the r8 ROM w/A2SD+ on my phone, have had it for a couple of weeks. My mem card is the standard 4GB one. I want to use A2SD+ as I have run out of phone space, so I have done the following: On a ubuntu linux laptop, I have used gparted to create a 512 ext3 vol, set the linux-swap file to 0 (but it makes it 7mb anyway) and set the rest to FAT32. When I put this card into my phone it just sticks at the pink circle screen that you get before the boot screen. If I partition it all as fat32, the phone boots up fine. Also, if I then put the ext3 partitioned mem card into my Win PC it says it needs a format... Any at the mo its all back to FAT32. What am I not doing right? Edited September 8, 2010 by BashyUK
Guest deltoro Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 you can resize partitions via adb if you're using amon_ras recov (im using the modified version from xda). i'm almost certain its not possible from clockwork... when in recovery you enter shell, then type 'parted' to enter partition script. then type help for the exact commands, but it should be something like 'print' for an overview of you current partition and 'resize 2 3500 4000' (where resize is the command, 2 is the number of you ext partition and 3500 and 4000 is an example of start and end points). i've done this with no problems and no data loss many times. but i would never do it without a copy cause there are always risks...

I've sorted it. Used the 'Fix Permissions' option in ROM Manager. Ran it, rebooted, ran 'Partition SD card' option in ROM manager to set EXT at 512 and Swap at 0, rebooted, voila it partitioned, no errors in clockwork mod as before. Sorted, now have A2SD storage showing in Quick Sys Info, have 113MB free on phone. Was 17! Excellent. Time to install Mozilla Fennec and see if BBC etc still bomb out. 2.2 improves things?! Pah! And I'm not touching anything now until r9 becomes stable :P
Guest dareal Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 thanks for the replies! already did the resize, just repartitioned the card with rom manager. ofc i did a full backup and a wipe for a totally clean install :P

Thanks Could use GParted via Linux (run from a CD if you don't have it installed on a PC). I used Ubuntu 10.10. Make sure you do a Nandroid backup first just in case you have to restore the ext partition as it may be wiped by a resize. Search for the thread 'a2sd+ questions' too.

Thanks maybe use a partitions manager that can handle ext (Linux) partitions for pc ...like Paragon :P with kind regards..Alex
Guest ascot17 Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 I have spent the last 3 days trying to change the partition size for my 16GB SD card. I originally had a 512MB Ext3 partition for A2SD+. I wanted to flash a Desire HD ROM but wanted to increase my Ext 3 partition size before I did so. I tried all sorts of methods after extensive Google searching and searching the forums on Modaco and Xda-Developers amongst others. All methods gave me errors of one form or another. Eventually I succeeded. The simple method is to use AmonRA recovery which allows you to resize the partition directly from recovery. If you have a different recovery, the hard part is getting AmonRA on your phone! I started with a Modaco r9 ROM using ROM Manager and Clockworkmod recovery. Here is my guide on how to do install AmonRA recovery and re-partition the card: Download and install from the Market: Terminal Emulator (free) RootExplorer (paid) Download the following files: AlphaRev HBOOT Reflash Utility [s-OFF] http://alpharev.nl/ AmonRA Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721792 Flash_Image http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7524314/flash_image Method 1) Backup your ROM (I used ROM Manager) 2) Copy your entire SD Card contents to a PC. 3) Use AlphaRev to remove security from the phone [s-OFF]. This allows you to write to the /system/ folder. 4) Download the flash_image file to anywhere on your SD card. 5) Download AmonRA recovery to the root of your SD card (It saves time to shorten the file name to ‘recovery.img’) 6) Using Root Explorer, move the flash_image file from the SD card to the phones /system/bin folder. 7) In Terminal, flash the AmonRA recovery: http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-fl...already-rooted/ 8) In recovery, use the partition SD card option to resize the partition (THIS WILL WIPE YOUR CARD). 9) In recovery, change the partition from Ext 2 to Ext 3. 10) Copy your SD Card contents from your PC back to the card.

I could boot from the live cd into the gparted tool ok, but each time it failed to find a working video display. Eventually I gave up and moved on to another method!
Guest bpivk Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Eventually I gave up and moved on to another method!I think that you can also install amonRA recovery via unrevoked. Just select the image file when starting unrevoked. But I have never used amon so I'm not sure that it works. But it should.

Guest BashyUK Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 I tried this too. Unrevoked just left me with a permanent boot loop in the boot animation screen.... Glad you sorted it but: Could have made it even easier for yourself by using 1 Android flasher from XDA Dev site. You can flash different recoveries/boot animations and splash screens all from one app. Just need S-Off, which you can do via the boot cd from Alpharev. As for your GParted issue, should have just d/l Ubuntu and ran from CD it would have easily found your graphics card.
