Locked US Dell Streak - Trying to upgrade to 2.1

So I'm using the directions from Streaksmart to upgrade to 2.1 on my US Dell Streak and I can't even to the 02 1.6, I get stuck on the Dell Logo. I rooted with UniversalAndroot and it worked perfect. Here are the instructions I followed, found here at Streaksmart

1. Assuming you don't already have it, download the Android SDK. Unzip it and put it wherever you want. You won't be installing anything so don't worry; you just need the fastboot.exe sitting on your computer.

2. Install Dell PC Suite if you don't already have it.

3. Download the stock recovery ROM and the stock Dell ROM from the links provided at MoDaCo.

4. Rename the Dell ROM Update.pkg and move it to the root directory of the Streak's microSD card.

5. Put the recovery ROM in the C:\ directory on your computer.

6. Turn off the Streak. Hold down the camera button while pressing the power button to turn it back on.

7. Tap the "Fastboot" button that will appear in the top-right corner of the screen.

8. Wait for about 10 seconds (you'll see "Wait for USB Fastboot detect" in the bottom-left corner of the screen in the meantime) and connect the Streak to your computer.

9. When "Fastboot_Mode" appears on the Streak's screen, open a command prompt on your computer. In Windows, you can do this by typing cmd in the Start Menu's search bar and hitting Enter.

10. Navigate to the folder where fastboot.exe (from the Android SDK) is by using the cd command.

11. Once you're in the right place, type fastboot.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img and hit Enter.

12. When you see "Download RECOVERY Done!" on the Streak, remove the back cover and pull out the battery.

13. Replace the battery and back cover. Hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button and choose option 2 from the menu that will appear.

14. Relax for a few minutes and wait for the Streak to reboot. You'll see the O2 splash screen because—drum roll—you've got the stock O2 ROM (build 4399) running on your Streak.

When I choose option 2 I get to a screen that says to hit the shutter button to go into emergency recovery, I do that and the home and menu buttons flash and it goes through a download process, then I get the dell logo and it stays there forever...............I grabbed the 1.6 from here ............ The fastboot part all works pefectly.

Goes to Dell logo for a second, then I get Android System recovery utility - GAUSB1A110421

Press the Shutter button to start emergency software recovery.

Warning: All data will be erased.

Press the Volume Down button to power off without recovery.

When I press the shutter button it goes to a place where it asks me to hit it again and I see a download progress icon, then I get the dell logo and it stays there for hours...........What am I missing.....Searching the threads is getting pretty clouded. Again, I apologize for asking what might be stupid questions, but I have spent 3 hours searching and can't seem to find what I may have done wrong.

What stock recovery ROM are you using? I wasn't able for the update to flash with the 4xxx version (4399?) but I then tried the 6941 version and had success. I suggest that - try different stock recovery ROMs.

I'm using the recovery from MoDaCo where else would I get one?? I tried one of the clockwork recovery ones and it didn't work.

any other ideas, I'm kinda at my wits end. I thought I wasn't getting in over my head, but I'm a total newbie at android. I had my iphone unlocked, but that was much easier. If I don't have a microSD reader and I can't "see" my phone since it wont turn on, how can I get a different ROM on there?? I'm under the impression I have to go from US 6061 to the UK's 1.6 version, then I can load 2.1..........

That thread is from July. If you read the stickies at the top of the page, namely this one, you'll see there's multiple recovery ROMs. Try the stock 6941.

Also just spend $10 for a card reader. Well spent as it's nice for transferring your pics easier from your camera too.

Ok, so that recovery seemed to work just the same as the other. All was fine until I get to the Update.pkg ..... It's still sticking at the Dell logo. Which update pkg should I use first?? It's my understanding that I have to go to O2 1.6 before I go to 2.1 is that correct? Since it's a locked to AT&T Dell I feel like I'm getting lost.

I got a locked AT&T Dell too, don't worry. I went straight to O2 2.1 ROM. So you're having no problems flashing the recovery ROMs in fastboot? And you download the 81xx ROM version, rename it to update.pkg and put it on the root of the SD card? I got some errors during installation of the update.pkg but not a hung dell logo. You have just a normal flash formated FAT32 and all that, correct?

I get no problems with fastboot. Everything seems to do exactly what it's supposed to. It's when I do the update that it's get stuck at the dell logo......It's just as I explained in my first post.

Let me try and narrow this down with a stupid question. "Root" of the SD would be straight on to it, not in any folders correct? Drop it so I'm seeing, music folders, android folder, apps, etc, but in all of that is the Update.pkg, correct........my computer sees the SD as "F" so it would be F:\Update.pkg right?

Do I NOT press the shutter button to enter emergency recovery?? I haven't had any problems with multiple recoveries being loaded, they all seem to load fine. So I feel like the combination of recovery/rom isn't working, or I'm not doing something right?? I have zero access to my phone, but have a SD reader.............any suggestions from anyone? I really need a phone, and I don't care what version I have on this for now.......

Ok, I have now tried every combination I can think of or find. I know there are a million threads that seem the same out there and I hate to keep asking questions. Can someone chat/call or something with me, I'll paypal ya some cash for the help?? I really need my phone to work.............

last thing I was able to install through clockwork was

downloaded 4399-update-streak-stock-rooted-signed.zip from http://android.modaco.com/content/de...ory-condition/ and renamed the whole zip file update.pkg then through clockwork I get what's written below......

update.pkg.zip

E: cant find Misc

finding update package...

opening update package...

Installing update...

Installing system...

Writing boot image...

Install Complete!

Install from sdcard complete.

then from clockwork recovery I go to "reboot system now"

and get E: Can't find MISC:

Then it reboots and I see the Dell Logo and the Home and Menu Keys flash like crazy, then I have the Dell Logo and it just stays there (30 mins so far)

I really feel like I've tried every combination, This round it keeps flashing the home and menu keys every couple of minutes, but is still on the Dell menu.

well, I guess I finally found the two that work together for me......I was able to get 4399 O2 flashed over, then right after got 6941, I really have no idea why some combinations work for some and not others.......it's nice to see 2.1........
