Lates official OTA update

Hi folks,

I am new to the whole custom ROM thing on Android. Currently I am running R8 and I just noticed HTC has released an OTA update in Europe. This OTA apparently includes enhanced support for multiple Inbox, something that's somewhat broken in Froyo so far.

What's the policy for MoDaCo ROMs? How soon do official OTA updates get incorporated in?

Cheers,

Dany.

I've got the option to upgrade my firmware

Will it kill my rooted phone or am I ok to update??

It will remove all rooting, I've been running it over a week now using the RUU and it's fine...

Am running R8 and decided to try it out. Wouldn't let me install (seemed to have an issue with some of the pre-vaidation checks). Guess will have to wait for it to be baked into R9? Dying to fix the mail issue!

Thanks Eddy... unfortunately I found Modaco too slow so was using another ROM which was faster... doh!

Guess I have to switch to Modaco then when Paul adds this update to his Rom.

i'm confused as to why we are getting HTC OTA updates on MCR R8!!! surely this is a dangerous thing to have and could potentially screw up the unofficial phone config that we're using?

Shouldn't these be disabled by default in custom roms?

I'm ignoring it for now! :P

Hi,

I have a branded but rooted TMobile NL Desire with R8.

Can I just flash the said ROM with RUU or do I need a goldcard?

The RUU has to be rooted I guess, and old school A2SD+ support would be nice :P

Do you have a link for the RUU? Thanks..

Yup - I found that out the hard way - installed it and the phone wouldn't boot up! Thankfully I managed to restore the backed up ROM. Ah the joys of using custom ROMs, now there's an extra wait to get updates incorporated into it. Still, it's all worth it...

Now, excuse my ignorance but what's this RUU business?

I am on 3 UK, using r9 .. and just checked the 'software update', low and behold HTC or 3 have the very first OTA update that I have ever been offered, judging by the comments above, I will not be accepting this one.

@Paul .. any thoughts on this one?
