Guest patrick.cassels Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Hey all, long time lurker - first time poster! I'm looking for a little advice.. Currently I have a debranded T-mobile UK Desire running the OTA upgraded unrooted froyo and I'm now looking to root. I have HBOOT version 0.92, which, according to my understanding I need to downgrade first (to HBOOT 0.80). I was looking to use this guide here on MoDaCo: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...owngrade-hboot/ My question is what are the HBOOT versions of the different WWE RUUs since I need to select an RUU with an HBOOT version of 0.80? If successful I'm going to sign up and cook myself a nice new froyo rom to upgrade to with the new HBOOT :P Thanks Patrick Edited September 9, 2010 by patrick.cassels
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 I also had a 0.92 Hboot and used this method to downgrade it : http://www.android-tutorials.org/dev/?page_id=78
Guest Mekerz Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 You don't need to downgrade HBOOT, as Unrevoked 3.2 can root any Hboot out (as of today) as it uses a weakness in ADB. If you do downgrade HBOOT, then flash a new HBOOT, you'll lose root - so none of the kitchens here cook ROMs that flash HBOOT.
Guest KcKepz Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 I too am having problems with downgrading as everything online for me is not accessible. ie; android-tutorials.org and shipped-roms.com, etc which are tools to use to downgrade. Can I ask; 1. Does anyone have the ROM for Telstra from the shipped-roms.com site which is linked by the tutorials to download? 2. Is there another way to downgrade without having to use other ROMS as I'm having problems getting to these sites? (they're either down or need special access to get to it. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers! KcKepz

Not sure why you want to downgrade though, why not just root your current hboot as Unrevoked 3.2 can root all HBOOT versions as of today. I actually flashed an RUU to upgrade my HBOOT to 0.92 and then re-rooted it with Unrevoked. Unrevoked 3.2 was taken down (had a bug for Evo users, but as I said, I used it today to root my Desire and had zero issues).

I have the 0.80 and, if unrevoked can root all versions, do I have to upgrade it?

I don't know for sure, what the benefits of having a higher HBOOT are but we know that the higher HBOOTs usually:To fix holes that can be exploited to allow rootHardware changes like SLCD However, I've often wondered if we're missing out on other fixes by keeping our HBOOT at 0.8 to allow the ability to root. So, seeing as Unrevoked can root 0.92, 0.83, 0.8, 0.75 - then I guess it's cool to use the latest just in case there's a benefit.

You're probably right, so as soon as Unrevoked comes back, I'll reflash a RUU and then reroot... thanks
