Google Voice not setting as default voicemail

Hey guys. Got my AT&T US Streak a week ago and Google Voice was working fine. Last night I updated to 2.1 MCR and everything is working fine. All except GV.

Whenever I go to Call Settings and change Voicemail Service from My Carrier to Google Voice, I get the error "Failed to retrieve and save current forwarding number settings. Do you want to switch to the new provider anyway? Yes - No" I hit yes and then get this error "Forwarding number change unsuccessful. Please contact your carrier if this problem persists."

If I click voicemail settings, my GV number is already set in there. Then if I click on call forwarding or any of the options below that, I get the error "Network or SIM card error." The phone is recognized as AT&T and I can browse the web and market just fine over 3G.

I've also deactivated and reactivated the device via GV's settings and calling the numbers they give you and the MMI messages are valid.

I called it from my house and after the rings, it just disconnects. Doesn't even prompt for a voicemail.

Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix? Thanks!

Well, it sounds like you have another issue to deal with first.

1. Regarding the "Forwarding number change unsuccessful" and "Network or SIM card error" - I had the same problem. My phone forwarding stuff would get setup correctly, but I'm unable to verify it using the phone itself. Also, it something took a few attempts or me manually inputing the correct voicemail number.

2. Regarding calling yourself and getting a disconnect - that is a separate issue. When you call, you should either goto your ATT voicemail (if call forwarding failed) or google voicemail (if call forwarding worked).

Have you had google voice work correctly with another phone? Do you have a google voice number?

Yeah, it worked previously on my Captivate and then on the Streak back on 1.6.

Hmm, I always get errors when setting up my phone, but it always works properly. Have you tried entering the setup code through the keypad?

Ignore the VM setup inside of GV. Just go to your GV account at www.google.com/voice and click on Settings -> Voice Settings, and then on the Phones tab add the Streak's phone number if not already there, then click "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" and follow the prompts.

I did that after trying on the phone.

I don't know if it needed time to apply or what, but it seems to be working now.

Thanks for the help guys!
