Guest sausage_0 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Hi all, I have managed to downgrade from android 2.2 to 2.1update1, and bootloader .92 down to .80. However I still am not able to root this phone, I have tried many different methods and am now at a loss as i don't know what i am doing wrong...?! When running unrevoked 3.14 the process seems to go thru ok until the message appears waiting for phone to reboot, then i get the error attached... "communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. try again" Drivers are installed as pictured in the attached as well. any help would be great... please don't tell me to go an read the forums I have spent days doing this and have been unsuccessful... Cheers
Guest Mekerz Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Have you done the following?Uninstalled HTC Sync - simply closing HTC Sync isn't enough, it needs to be uninstalled.Made sure USB debugging is activated on the phone?Untick "Ask me" under connect to PC and change default type to disk drive.Ensure things like DoubleTwist media player do not try to mount the card when USB is connected.
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I had problems running it under Windows 7 x64. I've finally done it under Ubuntu 9.10 (Live CD) and it worked fine without any problem.

Guest Mekerz Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 sorry mate, what is the live CD? It's a Linux operating system that you burn to a CD/DVD and it runs from there, doesn't install to your hard disk or anything. Also try unrevoked 3.2 or 3.21 (they're not officially out but I'm sure you can find a copy hosted somewhere).

I have tried rooting this phone using tiny core, everything seems to go smoothly but part way thru step1, i get the following error: FAILED (remote: 42 custom id check fail) Also the phone does not boot into the black screen with the red triangle as described (probably because of the error above) Can anyone help...? I reckon i have tried every method in these forums, and so far nothing has worked. :P

Or, but I never tried this, you can try to gain soft root with Universal Androot and then install ROM Manager to flash the recovery...

Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 It works for a soft root. Since system is not writable, it cannot make the rooting thing completely but it can give you root access until you reboot the phone. Since Rom Manager can flash the recovery with ClockWorkMod without rebooting, I think it'll be possible to do it and then reboot in recovery mode for flashing a custom Rom. But as I said, I've never done that, so be carrefull. Obviously, a try with Universal Androot will not kill the phone...

Guest EddyOS Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) Have to ask...why are you rooting the phone? As to your problem, flash a stock RUU (try the 2.10.405.2 WWE one as that's rootable with unrEVOked - I did it first time with W7 x64 Ultimate) and try again Edited September 13, 2010 by EddyOS

Do you install Rom Manager after the soft root ? When you have Rom Manager installed, the first option will flash ClockWorldMod recovery, and then you'll normally be able to select it in the boot menu

The boot menu just keep popping up over and over again.
