Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Dear Modaco users, I've had a little discussion with another member about hboot of our lovely Desire. When I rooted mine, I was forced to downgrade to 0.80 and it's still like that for now. But since Unrevoked can now root everything up to 0.92 it seems, what will be the benefit of upgrading the hboot to a newer version ? Also, how can I do the process ? I suppose I have to find a Froyo RUU or something... And question for Paul, if it's usefull to use a newer hboot, is it possible to put one as an option to the R9 kitchen ? (sorry if I'm a little bit stupid :P, I'm a n00b !) Thank you for your answers.

Process - Run a RUU with an updated HBOOT (which will wipe the phone, so ensure you backup and you'll lose root), then re-run Unrevoked and install any ROM you like. RE Kitchen - not sure that's possible as replacing the HBOOT will make you lose root, depends if the modified HBOOT can simply be extracted and flashed but I'm guessing it can't. If running the latest HBOOT makes a difference, I'm not sure. Some people reported better battery life in 0.80 but I think that was more a psychological thing.
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Okay, so I don't think I'll do it for now. I'm really wondering what's the benefit. Perhaps I'll do it before I'll install the R9 final when it'll be done, but I'll not do it if I'm not sure it can give something more than the 0.80

Guest volatile_ink Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 If it is possible to root the latest version of hboot.. can it be downloaded as an Update.zip or similar (if so, anyone know where from)? Don't fancy going through the rigmarole of updating, wiping, restoring etc. But if its the only way.... Just want to see if there is any difference in any aspect of performance i.e. battery, booting etc. Thanks.
Guest Han-Droid Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 interesting thread and interesting question I kept asking myself too... or put in another way: IS there somewhere a CHANGELOG for all the hboots out there?
Guest volatile_ink Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Used the AlphaRev mod to get S-OFF and that updated HBOOT to 0.93. So everyone may as well go for it.

(sorry if I'm a little bit stupid :), I'm a n00b !) Thank you for your answers. Take a look at this thread. AlphaRev will flash your HBOOT to 0.93 and will also make your Desire S-OFF so you will be able to access locked partitions such as /recovery and /system. You will also be able to change your boot image (the white with the green htc logo you see before the animation)! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794314 Edited October 3, 2010 by giorgisp
