2 questions/issues when doing wipe/nandroid restore

So, I decided to try to solve the google maps problem in R8 by using someone's suggestion to delete maps from /system then install using adb etc etc. This did not work and caused google maps not to launch even after reflashing ROM, so I had to factory reset and do a nandroid restore.

I have a couple of questions/ issues about wiping and restoring nandroid:

1. When I enter Recovery, I see an option to wipe/factory reset and also an option directly below it to "wipe cache". If I select advanced options (can't remember if that is the correct description), there is a different option to wipe/erase dalvik cache.

What is the difference between wipe cache VS wipe dalvik cache, if any? ie. I need to figure out if I should do one, then reboot, then do the other as well, or if wiping cache essentially wipes dalvik cache as well, or the other way around.

2. After restoring nandroid backup, I noticed that my Internal Storage immediately reduced from approx 30MB free space (before wipe and nandroid restore) to approx 20MB free space after nandroid restore without doing anything else, as shown by Quick System Info app. There is about 9-10 MB of free space disappearing after the restore.

I am using Modaco R8 custom rom and A2SD partitioned using ROM manager.

Anyone can help shed some light on these issues?

Many thanks.

Perhaps the missing 10mb of storage issue could be solved by reboot after "install" I don´t know but seem to recall it´s a necessary step after a regular rom installation.

Haven´t really gotten any other ideas sorry m8. Don´t know about the dalvik, I just wipe cache when I flash a rom, diden´t even know wipe dalvik cache option existed

Already rebooted 3 times after install. 10 MB still missing from internal memory. Still a mystery......
