Just goes to show, not all huge companies are utterly crap.

My little brothers streak was a weird one. It would not take an update of any sort, and the glass scratched more easily than any phone he's ever used before. He got his after mine, and was deeply impressed, but I fear he ended up with the stores shitty demo unit.

After numerous attempts at updating (official, and unofficial via MCR fw) his streak had a 1.5 foot fall onto concrete, and the whole glass screen shattered. From edge to edge, huge cracks ran down. Screen inside was still perfect though.

I wrote a letter with it nicely asking for their help, and mentioning that I didn't think the glass was gorilla glass. Thanked them and so on for previous service.

Sent off to o2, after a few hiccups recieving a jiffy bag and so on. He recieved a brand new unit back today (he posted around 4 days ago) stating...

"Our policy is to repair within three to seven days. If this is not possible, then you will recieve a brand new phone."

And a brand new phone was what the boy got.

Rather great of o2 eh? I suppose being nice goes a long way as well.

I'm definately recommending that otter case someone posted about tonight, and I'm rather keen on it myself too! Just in case! :)

O2 were good to me too, replacing my charger with new one after I emailed them about it, in fact they sent me 2 cos I accidentally sent the email twice ha !

+1 for O2 customer service.

I had a Friday unit and after trying all I could to remedy the problems I had, I eventually sent it back for repair. Sent it on a Monday, got a brand new (not reconditioned) one back Friday including another battery!

Am itching to upgrade to 2.1 but am loving the stability and keyboard too much to bother just yet. This really is a fab piece of kit.

Great to hear you finally fell in live with it like the rest of us , after the grief you had to start with

That is a great experience to hear of and you were right to post your very positive experience. Mostly all we get to hear of are furious rants of criticism.

I have always been impressed by O2 and kudos to them that they cut the quibble and did the right thing by your brother. All credit to yourself too of course.

I bet he loves his Streak more than ever now.

Speaking to various people and reading forums / twitter etc , o2 seem to have this terrible reputation for poor 3G coverage ,poor network stability and generally poor service.

...And I for one cannot fathom where this reputation comes from ? I have used them since the XDA / Genie days , and I cannot fault them on ANYTHING , Excellent CS , excellent coverage , excellent products and value.

There was a time around the time of the iPhone 3G launch that , for some reason calls took a long time to connect , but this was not a huge deal IMO , and was soon resolved (for me at least )

The most outstanding thing for me , is the level of CS , it reminds me of Orange in their heyday ... Friendly , helpful , quick - and always quick to offer goodwill gestures if problems take any amount of time to resolve. Any issues I have had with o2 have been solved almost instantly- if they say they'll call back THEY CALL BACK !!

The people that knock them , always tend to champion Vodafone - who in my experience are god awful in all respects !

O2 do themselves no favours with their propensity for exclusivity deals. This results in a creaking, jammed network and a horde of pissed off customers. I moved to Voda some time ago, and the service is much better. I don't attribute this to anything other than the fact that Voda's network isn't crammed with bandwidth-hungry iphones though.

.

I've just moved from vf because their network was so poor. Trying to sell me something that uses my electricity and broadband allocation to supplement their poor excuse for coverage isn't acceptable and doesn't account for their downgrading of the local cell tower, and refusal to do something about it.

It got so bad that I cancelled my contract early, and had a prolonged argument with the multiple cs departments in various countries. In the end I lodged a formal complaint against their "web email team" after I was accused of lying because I'd followed instructions given out verbally by a cs Rep to terminate the contract. Their cs team admitted I was right, although the information I'd been given was wrong, but I've still not had an apology..

Let’s give O2 credit too for taking on the Streak in the first instance and for having it on demonstration in its stores.

Contrast Carphone Warehouse which does its best to pretend that the Streak doesn’t exist.

i also had huge issues with vodajunk myself, ended up costing me close to £600 in early termination fees, due to the fact i was missold one contract (told data was unlimited but actually found out that they would TRIPLE my bill if i used over 500mb -was never told of this limit at any point) and secondly i was lucky to get a 2g signal where i live let alone 3g, so the phone i had at time was next to useless. and phone would drop calls the min it swapped from 2 to 3g or 3g to 2g. network is utter cack at vodaphone and theirs alot of users on the maemo forums i frequent that are cancelling contracts because of voda changing contract terms without informing users/

I was with voda for 15years bstards they are! At least O2 fess up when they've made a boo boo.

Ps I was told this by Dell Executive Customer support, friendly folks too!

"I checked the information with our technical support team and they have suggested that you can continue with the Android 1.6 version and not to update to Android 2.1, as you are aware there are certain issues with the 2.1 version. And it is possible because of this you are not getting the option for 2.1 on the updates."

"Though we don’t have a definitive date when the Android 2.2 would be released in UK, once it is released it would be made aware to all the users in UK."

Hi all,

Well obviously its bad to generalise and we don't all have the same experiences but for me when i started having issues with my Streak neither CPW or 02 where of any help at all and i mean No help which makes me wonder why i bought from them but i will make sure not to again. Dell on the other hand have excellent and helpful staff although unfortunately in my case what they kept on promising never happened and it was only after escalating my problem to the Dell Executive Customer support team that it was resolved. But at least in the end i got a brand new 32GB Streak both unlocked and unbranded which helped win me back to liking Dell as lets face it there is still nothing that beats the Streak IMHO.
