Guest memgem Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Heya guys This is where i am now near enough after a day of doing this. I rooted my phone initially and it seemed to work, i had superuser permissions but it didnt seem to be fully rooted, i couldnt flash any ROMS and when in HBOOT setting, when I tried to go through the recovery part to flash the ROM the red triangle just stayed there it didnt change. I thought if i re rooted it may help, so i did, with the same step by step guide , however when i connected the phone and opened the windows push batch files the red triangle didnt change and i had to disconnect and turn the phone back on. So now I have my phone which I do not think is fully rooted as the push files didnt work properly and i cannot flash any roms as i cannot run the recovery mode properly or get to use clock work mod as the red triangle is just always there. Everyone seems to have been having success and I just cannot seem to get anywhere any help would really be appreciated. I have tried so many things from downloading custom ROMS frommodacoetc but i cannot flash anyROMS and now im just stuck. If there is a way i can properly just root the phone and flash the ROMS id be happy, I feel like i know what to do, but i just do not understand why when rooting, the last part when u connect the phone and open the push files didnt work, and also why when i thought the rooting had worked the first time, i still couldnt get to the part where i flash the ROMS. Your expertise would be much appreciated!!!!!
Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Unrevoked? i found this last night and tried using it but once i connect the phone and it goes to the recovery menu, when i try to enter the recovery setting it goes to a picture with a phone and a red triangle and then it just stays like that and nothing happens. any ideas? id be happy to even try re rooting if there was a gold standard way of doing so, just the way i did it last time one part of it didnt work properly. thanks

Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 no the unrevoked was unsuccessful thats what i had meant, when the triangle appears i need to reboot the phone myself as nothing changes and unrevoked says theres some sort of communication failure. ill try again now but it doesnt seem to work. I am just trying to find a guide on here for rooting to see if re rooting the phone would help. Do u tihnk it would? HBBOOT is 0.75

HBBOOT is 0.75 Then it should work, no idea why Unrevoked fails:S maybe try Pauls manual root method? as long as you can boot and use your phone it´s at least not bricked. http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...o-1-21-support/ Edited September 16, 2010 by Asselberghs
Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 heya thanks for ure replies. ill try the manual way again, i had done the manual way before, once with pauls way and then another. i can try again tho the phone works fine, at the moment it has all bloatware removed, phone works perfectly, however i cant flash any roms at all. i have tried using rom manager and it doesnt work, it just goes to the boot screen and when i goto recovery it doesnt goto clockwork mod it just restarts the phone, thats why i thought maybe i didnt root 100% correctly as the last part when manually rooting didnt go through. does that make sense? if i could flash the rom id be happy but i cant.
Guest Asselberghs Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 On the other hand if superuser permissions is installed, thus you should have rooted, then maybe. Maybe. It´s rooted without an installed boot manager or what´s the appropriate term for Clockwork recovery mod. Try and go find an app that require root, see if it works, if it works you´ve got root. If you´ve got root, install ROM Manager by ClockworkMod from the market, and install Clockwork recovery mod from there, reboot and you should have it and be good to go to flash roms. My guess is it´s because the recovery manager is missing. As Unrevoked normally "installs" both the rooting and clockwork recovery mod.

Ohh sorry to hear m8:S well seems your just seriously unlucky:S can´t think of any alternatives, I just used unrevoked without a problem, so I am not really that good at this. If I think of anything I´ll post. Good luck to you m8, I really hope you get it fixed soon.
Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 cheers pally. I have tried using titanium back up and it says im running a rooted phone but after the second time doing it the superuser permissions icon is not there. what i have just found out though is the HBOOT driver which i never installed so i just did and will try using unrevoked now which fingers crossed may work.

Guest commandergc Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 You need to install a recovery image like ClockworkMod. to do this you can either use unrevoked or by using ROM Manager. The easiest way is by using unrevoked. UNREVOKED: To use unrevoked make sure you have un-installed HTC sync and that you have enabled USB Debugging on the phone, once this is done just leave your phone at the home screen and run unrevoked. if unrevoked still does not work you need to get the android drivers from here and install them. once unrevoked has done it's job you can reinstall HTC Sync. ROM Manager: Open Market Place and search for Rom Manager install the free version. once installed start the application and select flash recovery. once it's done select reboot into recovery. now you can install what ever ROM you want. to get back to the recovery just turn off your phone, turn it back on while pressing the volume down button then select recovery.

I always thought that ROM Manager couldn't actually flash ClockWorkMod on the Desire because the NAND wasn't permanently unlocked, or something, and that it just appeared to be installing it. Did this change at some point or was it never the case?
Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 righty guys with the help from this forums and hours on end ive fixed it and got it back to a generic rom and rooted the phone. now if i want to flash a new rom can i do this purely with ROM manager by downloading the ROM through ROM manager and then installing it from the SD once ive flash clockwork mod? also i am on orange. is there a way i can update to 2.2 from my current generic rooted rom?

Your phone is now rooted and cannot use OTA official updates. I´d advice you use MCR (Modaco Custom Rom) to get Android 2.2 In regards to flashing new roms. Download ROM Manager, install Clockwork Recovery mod through it. Reboot, go into recovery, and if it´s done right recovery should now send you into Clockwork Recovery Mod. And now you can flash a MCR zip from your SD Card. You could install roms directly through rom manager, for instance CyanogenMod but not MoDaCo roms. How to flash a new Rom with Clockwork Recovery Mod: It´s a good idear that your phone is fully charged before you do this, I think if my memory serves me right, that it drained 30-40% of my battery to install the new rom. Shut your phone down, boot it again, but hold the power buttom and volume down buttom at the same time. Select Recovery by means of volume buttoms for up and down and power to select. Now you´ll enter Clockwork recovery mod. This time a click on the optical trackpad is select and volume buttoms still up and down navigation. Select Wipe data/factory reset. Next select Wipe cache partition Then select install zip from sdcard. Then choose zip from sdcard. Select your MCR zip file and let it flash. Once it´s done, click back once and select reboot. Now it´s all done:=) The steps with Wipe is total deletion of all data on your phone, this must be done at this point in time, but updating from MCR r9 to r10 for instance when it´s available at first these steps will not be necessary, so you could keep your installed apps. If your already on one of Pauls builds/versions of his MCR. Just so you know it for the next time you need to flash a rom. If you however encounter troubles with further updates to new MCR releases your first step before commenting in MCR threads should be reflash the rom with the Wipe steps, to clean it completely and see if that dosen´t fix the problem. Guest memgem Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) this is where i had trouble the first time round and im unsure why. rooting is done. ive loaded rom manager clockwork mod is installed and it says is working. but when i boot the phone, goto recovery and select, it goes to a scrren with a phone and a red triangle and clockwork mod does not appear. I have tried also using rom manager to load a ROM i have on the SD card which i downloaded from here but it didnt work either but im guessing it may be to do what u just said. i just want to get a decent rom with apps2sd and to flash it on my phone but i just cant seen to flash the roms on. i have unrevoked but am unaware of how to use it to only flash and not to root (if even possible) i have just tried using rom manager too install a ROM downloaded from it but once it asks me to go ahead and reboot and install, it boots to a screen with a question mark and the phone just restarts Edited September 16, 2010 by memgem
Guest Asselberghs Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) I think unrevoked will do both in the process so you can´t avoid rooting, and I don´t know if it´s harmful to root a rooted phone, don´t think so but I don´t know. Everything worked for me on first try. Maybe try to install Amon Ra recovery instead of Clockworkmod? I´ve never encountered errors with Clockworkmod but I have no ideas of how to get out of that one, so maybe you could try to install Amon Ra and flash using that, I can´t guide you with that though since I´ve never used it. Glad you got it working:) And well if you have cyanogen now and a working clockworkmod then you should be able to just reboot, enter clockworkmod and wipe and flash an MCR rom. Clockworkmod should stay where it is, if it´s working in it´s current state.
