Guest Third_of_Five Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 TCP 0.0.0.0:999 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 127.0.0.1:999 127.0.0.1:3162 ESTABLISHED The first of the above lines (from netstat -an) is the problem one as it is accepting connections from anyone. I found this after my firewall pointed out someone was trying to connect to it. Don't know how much of a security risk it is but... presumably someone could get at your outlook data and potentially get access to your system (depending how well activesync has been written). Just looked at my active TCP connections and the WCESCOMM.EXE & WCESMGR.EXE process has five active connections between them (5 in/5 out). I wonder what they are all for? They are only active when your phone is in it's cradle and connected to the PC.
Guest Dave Abrey Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Would this be a problem if used behind a decent firewall? I actually have two, Norton Internet Security software firewall and the hardware firewall in my broadband router - I would hope that's enough . Dave.
Guest Third_of_Five Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Yes, You will be ok if your firewall is setup sensibly, i.e. to only let in packets/connections to ports you know you want to expose to the world. Probably not a big issue if you are using NAT.
