Sync / Google Account Issues

I've been having problems on and off for a while with MoDaCo custom ROM (currently using r8) with Sync. After a while I'll be unable to download any apps, and nothing will sync. Upon launching the Talk app, the app disappears (like a crash, but no force close.)

The fix is very simple - go to Settings -> Applications -> Gmail

and clear all data.

I'm then able to sync (the arrows appear in notification bar) and download from the market again.

Something in my GMail or Google Account is causing the issues. Any ideas?
