how to update to android 2.1

Jusr joined your very interesting forum. I purchased an unlocked dell streak wondered howbi can upgrade from android 1.6 to 2.1. Readthe pksts done by paul nthey look very complicated? Also would this also affect the official. Dell upgrade to froyo 2.2 over the air later this also year. I would like to upgrade but. I have a fear of totally screwing my phone up and turning it into a brick!! Can anyone help me please??

thats not really true, but the thing is: if that thread isn't clear to you, just don't do the upgrade. you're not ready to do that if you don't understand it. I don't get parts of it, so I don't try to do it :lol:

Also, did you write this on your Streak? It has a whiff of the 1.6 keyboard about it :) (which I love, despite the frequent inaccuracies, btw).

Sorry. Anyway, to echo what everyone else is saying, everything you need is here on this site but if it's confusing then I'd urge you to just carry on reading until it is less so. No point in getting in over your head from the get-go.

The way I did was quite simple:

1. Get the beta update

2. Copy it to your SD card, call it Update.pkg - ensure the U in Update is upper case!

3. Turn the phone off, then, with the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons pressed, turn it on again

4. Choose the option involving the Update.pkg from sdcard and follow the onscreen instructions.

But that only works on O2 phones. The OP has an unlocked Streak direct from Dell. He needs to install teh stock recovery first. As others have said, if you dont understand the instructions, then dont do it!
