Guest andycqos Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 I've implemented fards sysctl changes and the new build prop in Stephen Hydes topic and Im getting some very strange battery consumption. Basically, the battery seems to be going down twice as fast when the phone is in airplane mode! I fully the charged the phone last night and applied the two changes at around 8pm. I used the phone a little bit and it was on, with wifi connected, through the evening. The battery level dropped to 99 just as I was going to sleep around 10.30. I have Tasker installed and set to switch to airplane mode between 11pm and 6am. When I woke up and checked the battery at 7am it had dropped to 60% I also have Juice Plotter running and you can clearly see the battery drop significantly quicker while the phone is in airplane mode until 6am than between 6 and 7. I dont think theres anything else on the phone running in the background that could cause this. I have 3g Watchdog, watchdog lite (which is set to trigger an alert at 50% usage and never does), Touchdown and twitter Anyone any ideas? Could it be Tasker thats the problem? Or is something else trying to update and constantly retrying because theres no connection? This morning, Ive manually put the phone into airplane mode and I'll see what that does. This is so frustrating, though, as the two changes I made make the phone run so much better and the normal battery life seems to be fine
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 maybe try leaving phone innormal mode overnight as a test (turn auto sync off and disable wifi and put in silent

Guest T_r_i_s Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Have you tried the airplane mode trick?
Guest spences10 Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 When you say youve noticed increased battery drain, was this before or after applying fards and Stephens changes? With fards changes when I left it in airplane mode overnight there was a max drain of ~3% unfortunatley I had to leave my device on charge last night so coudnt tell you. will do tonight tho
Guest andycqos Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Have you tried the airplane mode trick? Theres a trick to it?
Guest T_r_i_s Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) Theres a trick to it? Read this - it tells you what to do, it's something to with a problem in android 2.1 causing the battery to drain: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647980 Think it made a big difference to me.... EDIT: from the thread: Seems as if there is some sort of bug with with Cell standby that causes the phone to lose signal which in turns just kills the battery. To verify that your set has the problem, check the Cell standby info in the Battery Use info. If the Time without a signal is higher than 0% (50% seems to be the norm) than you have a problem. One solution, at the moment, is to follow these steps: 1. Plug in phone charger 2. Put phone in Airplane mode 3. Put phone to sleep for a minute 4. Turn off airplane mode 5. Unplug phone I can confirm that this works and my Time without a signal is at 0% for over 9 hours now. The battery life is MUCH better and the phone didn't die on me last night while i was sleeping.
