Guest ste1164 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I have a branded HTC Desire on orange. I have rooted the phone using unrevoked. But i created and I am using a backup of the original orange ROM. When ever orange release the froyo update, will I be able to download and instal it without any problems?
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I think that yes if you are using an original Rom but you'll have to root again after the update.
Guest ste1164 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 I hope so as orange have just released froyo
Guest pignoli Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 I hope so as orange have just released froyo Me too as I'm in the exact same boat as you are - at almost the exact moment I got sick of waiting and decided to root and find a custom 2.2 ROM, Orange went and started rolling out the update  So I'm now rooted but still on the stock ROM. The update is now available for me and I'm not sure whether trying to do it will break anything...
Guest pignoli Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Me too as I'm in the exact same boat as you are - at almost the exact moment I got sick of waiting and decided to root and find a custom 2.2 ROM, Orange went and started rolling out the update  So I'm now rooted but still on the stock ROM. The update is now available for me and I'm not sure whether trying to do it will break anything... Okay, I tried to run the 2.2 OTA update, it started but then went to the Exclamation mark + Android robit screen. Pressed a few buttons, home brought me into my clockworkmod recovery menu with a dialogue stating: E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed Insallation aborted. So I went to reboot system and appear to be still on 2.1 But what I do now have is the official Orange zip update (for those who want it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6856303/OTA_Bravo_...l5ki68q0eg.zip) so I'm thinking I might be able to run this from Clockworkmod if I put it in the base of the sd card (like a custom ROM). Anyone got any thoughts?
Guest pignoli Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 I did it eventually. First of all renamed the file update.zip and ran it with clockworkmod which gave me the looping htc logo screen. So pulled the battery and booted into recovery (which had been overwritten so was default, not cwm recovery) then pressed vol up+power to get menu and wiped everything, then applied the update.zip from that recovery, which got into Android 2.2! But I was getting continual reboots, which a factory reset fixed, fortunately. SO I'm on 2.2, without root and it wouldn't load any of my settings off the SD card, and obviously without root, titanium backup wouldn't do its thing, so thank goodness for appbrain! Just posting the details in case anyone needs them. I would guess that wiping everything BEFORE I tried applying the update with cwm the first time might have made the process less nerve-wracking. Once I've confirmed its stable I'll probably try re-rooting as unrevoked is supposed to work with 2.2
Guest nixey Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 But what I do now have is the official Orange zip update (for those who want it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6856303/OTA_Bravo_...l5ki68q0eg.zip) Do I need a drop box account to DL the update from the url above
Guest pignoli Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Do I need a drop box account to DL the update from the url above Nope, it should be a accessible just with the link. Spread it around though, as I imagine quite a few people would be interested in it and I'm not sure how much of a pounding my free dropbox account will take...
