Somebody told me even at&t blocked all the beta with the imei number but if you don't turn on 3g they won't be able to detect your phone's imei number thru 3G signal. and you still can use it with at&t simcard,is that true?Anyone can confirm this. Thanks

I don't know if its true that they only looking for 3G usage to trigger the lockout. But they can certainly detect the IMEI through normal voice usage. Their favorite pastime is detecting smartphones that don't have a corresponding data plan (based on IMEI) -- they then force the users into data plans (I'm really surprised this practice hasn't been struck down). I'm fairly sure the Beta Streak IMEIs wouldn't be on such a forced upgrade list. So I suppose its possible they're only paying attention to the 3G access when doing their lockouts. But there's no guarantee it would stay that way. But on the flipside, I suppose they're not putting continuous effort to lockout these 1,000 or so beta streaks so you might be in the clear. I suppose the only thing to do is to give it a shot.

The IMEI's are blocked by computer......that is why the Rebelsim does not open up AT&T to the beta units. It is not a 3g thing, it is an IMEI thing! Without either changing the IMEI or AT&T developing scruples and allowing them back in again, you are out of luck.

Later........

nope it has nothing to do with 3g. As soon as you put the sim in (even without turning 3g on) you get the SMS notification. Using data, however, may be what actually blocks the SIM. I was able to use tiny amounts of data, in between wifi connections without being cut off. Once I used a lot of data continuously for about 20 minutes, it would be cut off. This happened to me twice.

I actually could go a week and a half sometimes with full data usage on my beta in between blocks, I don't know what that says about how they enforce them. But, in the end, it was always blocked.

OP, if you're still interested in the Beta and that wasn't your winning bid on eBay, I have one for sale.

So the Beta Streaks are won't work on AT&T but are otherwise unlocked for any other network worldwide ?
