Have any of the devs here on MoDaCo thought of contacting Cyanogen and his team to work on CM6? In his latest blog post, Cyanogen points out that they can only develop for devices that someone on the team owns, but they're always looking for new people to join them. Have any of the devs tried contacting Cyanogen to see if they can join the crew and develop for the Streak?

well anyone who checked my twitter will no doubt see the responses back and forth, looks like we may have a cyanogen port coming - cant even try and give any timescale yet as we need to get a working kernel for froyo first

good to know they'll be somebody on it! hopefully the Streak remains popular enough that demand won't fizzle - much as I appreciate Dell's efforts on the software side, I was utterly spoiled by Nexus One "pure" Google and iPhone "pure" Apple before that.

i was thinking - the Streak has got to be one of the best designs out of the Dell stable - stick an Apple logo on it and people would believe it (well, until they switch the screen on heheh)

id have streak over anything by crapple any day no matter how crap its software is - at least streak doesnt have a major design flaw that dell refuse to admit exists

That is good to know. There is a thread on cyanogen mod forums with people willing to throw in money to buy cyanogend himself a streak. I wasn't for that as i believe we the people that own the streaks need to step up and do it ourselves.

I for one have no clue where to get started but have been reading up and experimenting a lot.

Also i should be going to the big tx android bbq in 2 weeks and i know cyanogen will be there... maybe if he actually holds the streaks in his own hands he'll be amazed and help out a lot more in your (our) efforts!

Well, except for that super-fragile LCD that tends to break underneath the glass... But to be fair most people have been able to get their Streaks replaced even though the warranty doesn't cover it. My suspicions are its because Dell doesn't have a repair service for streaks and they don't want an LCDgate on their hands.

Anyway, can't wait to be blessed with a well-made ROM that's not 1.6. Here's to Streak development!

haha ok... then where would i be? using one of my old htc kaiser or raphael? no thanks...

funny story though, i emailed a developer about his app not looking right on the streak cuz of the big screen and its long aspect ratio, his reply... Buy one and i'll fix the app...

I think thats the reason why they're not attending.. but seriously, they have no excuse not to! i live 30 min from their headquarters and the android bbq is 5 min from my house! pathetic

As i've stated in another post over at xda, i think the streak is just a pet project of dell cuz they're not taking it seriously... My only regret for purchasing this device is that it hasn't been widely adopted and we're missing a lot of hacks/tweaks.

So i guess now we play the waiting game.

Also Stephen Hyde and a couple others have got froyo to boot, no working drivers so touchscreen radio and such not working. I just wish i new more to help. All my dev knowledge has been self learned from either reading on forums or tweaking files in the system and hoping it doesn't brick my device :)

ESPECIALLY if we get all those funky camera additions as well..... touch focus, face detection, continous focus that Cyan is implementing in the N1 at present...
