Question to Incoming Mail and always-on mobile data

Hi all,

i have a general Question that is not really Pulse specific but since i am using one

and having it run under FLB Mod 1.5 it might also fit here.

First question:

One of the reasons i wanted to have such a smartphone was to be actively notified about incoming mails.

I currently only use my Gmail account with this phone but it is not working as intended.

Sometimes i am notified by vibration and sound when a mail comes in but more often i just see them

when i manually open the Gmail app or i get the notification while i am using other apps of the phone.

It does not matter if WLAN is on or off and my 3G coverage is excellent here in Vienna.

Of course i selected a suitable ringtone for notification and even added vibration to that.

Second question:

What does the "Enable always-on mobile" setting actually do ?

I always had this activated - now i tried deactivating this but i did not see any obvious changes.

Additional Info: I am using a "BOB" simcard (super cheap! btw) which is a provider that has no own network but is using the 3G network

of A1 in austria. So i have to enable data roaming even so i am using the "right" network. Might the roaming stuff have anything to do with

my phone not checking for mails when sleeping.

would be thankful for any tips !

Does exactly what it says - maintains a data connection to your provider at all times. However every app I have opens and closes connections as needed anyway so having this on is pointless.

Saves a ton of battery by leaving it off.

thank you for that quick answer.

I will put the other question "on hold" since i am just now updating my phone to FLB Mod 1.6b.

Maybe a fresh start with swap enabled will solve my issue with the emails.

i´ll update this when i know more

update: It seems like the updgrade - OR - resetting everything did the job.

Now i get the desired notification at once when i send an Email to myself.

Could the advanced task killer be the source of this problem when it

automatically kills apps in the background ?

ATK kills apps in the background only if you allow it to do that. It is you who knows if you did it or not.
