Guest z7x8c9 Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Why do application updates from the Market, like Gmail and Maps, always fails in MCR R8? Can anyone explain me? Paul, is this going to happen in R9? I like MCR's, but it's a bit of a pain to use adb to install a simple update from the Market...

Everything seems to install fine except for the Google updates (GMail and Maps). Didn't see the more active thread for this. http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...odaco-froyo-r8/ Edited September 22, 2010 by H0g4n
Guest daft009 Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...03&page=401 someone has written a little update which will remove the gmail app so you don't need to use ADB manually. Once done, download from the market and install.
Guest Sally Mack Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 The patch didn't remove gmail for me... anyone else try it?
Guest Paul Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Push this file - http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/Gmail.apk - to /system/app from recovery. P
Guest choccy Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Push this file - http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/Gmail.apk - to /system/app from recovery. P Paul, Will that work for Google Maps too?
Guest choccy Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 The patch didn't remove gmail for me... anyone else try it? Yeah was no good for me either.
Guest choccy Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Push this file - http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/Gmail.apk - to /system/app from recovery. P Sorry to post again, does this need to be done via ADB?
Guest gavinlew Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 (edited) Well I ran this ; ./adb push /home/gavinl/Downloads/Gmail.apk /system/app 2020 KB/s (1621428 bytes in 0.783s) Then used a filemanager to locate /system/app and installed the .apk - yet the version still remains the same 2.2.1 Scrap the above , do this adb shell mount /system adb push ~/Gmail.apk /system/app Reboot Viola! Gmail 2.3 Edited September 22, 2010 by gavinlew

Gmail 2.3 Is there a way to do this without ADB? The zip file did not work for me. Or do i need to do something else first?
Guest ManOfSteal Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 (edited) Thought I'd finally get around to doing this today (and do the same for gmaps eventually), but have ran into problems. [Edited out a problem I had pushing the apk, now resolved] [When rebooted, the phone remains on the initial HTC logo permanently. Any advice please?] Now resolved the latter by reflashing R8, so back to square one... Edited September 22, 2010 by ManOfSteal
Guest Chicaned Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 I used Titanium Backup to uninstall GMail then I rebooted the phone. It then installed fine from the market.
