Orange Care - Insurance

I think this might be an interesting subject....

All my previous phones (Nokia) have been completely covered by my Orange Care Insurance that I pay for each month also the charger that came with each phone has been covered oh and the battery too.

It does depend who your talking to though at orange.

Cover...

Theft

Accidental Damaged

Loss

etc etc

Example....

My 7110? (Matrix Phone) the slide broke... Swapped Out

My 8310 the battery didn't hold its charge... Swapped Out

Whats covered with my SPV?

The phone

Generally the rule with care is; to replace anything that could stop you gaining access to the orange network. ie the phone, battery and sim card. Everything else comes with a 14 day money back, 28 replacement and 12 months manufacturers warranty.

It does however depend on the operator or shop asst. as to whether they are "stupid" enough to replace anything that isn't covered after the 28 day period!

I think everything is covered except the battery and headset

The battery is covered for the first 12 months under the insurance.

After that the insurance will not pay out for it so the best bet is to upgrade... sorry :)

I'd like to know if I've even got Orange Care!

(can't be ar**d to phone Orange as I've no confidence in them whatsoever since porting to them early 12/02 - just browse this forum if you disagree with me)!

SPV Guide - Page 11.4 reads:

"Care is inclusive on Talkplans for 12 months. You will receive 12 months world wide phone insurance (covering loss, theft, accidental or malicious damage) and 3 year warranty for all new phones."

I bought my phone direct from Orange, on "Talk Time 30" tariff.

Does "Talkplans" = "Talk Time" ?

Forgive my scepticism, but I still can't get my head around the terms of their "Orange SPV pack" for GPRS promotional offer either!

I don't think so as when I bought mine in November I was asked if

I wanted to take out Orange care :)

Usually when you buy a new Phone from orange on contract you are given 12mnths free insurance, well used to be the case anyway.

Lately after investigation it seems that if its not asked for or offered its not given the person selling it to you has to tick a box - apparently may not be correct.

If you are on an equivalant talk plan like I used to be then tough titty no free nothing unless the equivalant plan offers it free.

I just had a dig around and over the net with some resellers you can still get 12mnths free care with orange on new contracts!

I pay £2.50 p/m for mine as you do not get free insurance on upgrades only on new contracts.

Orange Care is £5 p/m as standard.

Then you have no claims dicsount type of thing after each year.

Orange Care as standard ended in october when they introduced the "Your Plan" arrangment. then it became a way of charging you an extra £5 per month for your talk plan. I'm on an OVP O2 200 tarrif which gives me the same benefits as the talk 200 but with 50 free text messages. Previously I would have taken the orange tarrif cos you got the free orange care....

Just a note to upgraders to the SPV...

... I was told by Orange Care that by upgrading - and thus extending my contract by 12 months, I would recieve a further 12 monts of free insurance from the date of upgrade.

Can any of our resident OCS confirm this?

It's all swings and roundabouts. Don't forget, with OVP you are very limited on the services that can be added on.

Orange dropped the inclusive care for several reasons... mainly because customers didn't even know they had it and were taking out extra ins. and also because no other network offered it inclusive.

If you want to add care you can call 150 and get it added now - tho it is for 12 months.

Also, if u upgraded to the SPV, and your "old" talk plan was talk 60 or greater, and u haven't changed it, Orange are obligated to continue giving you your free care for another 12 months.

Best to check tho, give CS a ring... it'll take 2 mins and at least you know that if u lose ur phone or what ever, it's not time to slash ur wrists. That was a joke.

Remember again tho that ur extra memory that is lost with it is not covered so i suggest u keep a back up of ur card and be careful where u leave it!

what can't i have/do with my ovp 02 200 tarrif then???

if you mean bundles then i can have the gprs bundles cos these aren't covered by the OVP agreement, so it's just the text and picture bundles and I get 50 free texts which is about all i'll ever use...

That's true, u can add GRPS. In ur case it doesn't matter.

My girlfriend does about 400txt per month. She's on YP 200 wiv 360 txt.

If she was on O2 200 wiv 50 txt it'd actually cost her more because she saves more than the difference in the tariffs. Really bad syntax - soz :)

I suppose this is an extreme case but many people i know use far in excess of 300 txt per month.

You cannot stay on an OVP when upgrading to an SPV because upgrading to an SPV requires you to take out the GPRS pack which can only be used in conjunction with an Orange Talk Plan.

i'm on OVP O2 200 tarrif with the £6 GPRS Bundle and i've had my SPV for about two weeks. The phone cost me nothing but it wasn't an upgrade and just took out a new contract and a new number and ended my old one.

I just called 150 to check and guess what - Page 11.4 of the SPV Guide is a load of cr*p! What a surprise :!:

I guess that when the SPV guide was put to print it was correct. Since then the YP tariffs may have been introduced... check the small print for "details correct at time of print" for the get out... if it's not, u may be able to blag urself a free yrs ins!

Back cover of Guide:

"The information contained in this user guide is correct at the time of going to press, but Orange reserves the right to make subsequent changes to it and services may be modified, suspended or withdrawn.

I guess that may also help to explain why page 7.3 re USB Modem Link is also a load of cr*p :!:

Im on the OVP cellnet business first tariff - £13.99 per month with free care & i get cheap calls (8p peak/4p off peak). i upgraded to the SPV last month & stayed on the same tariff, at the time of upgrading i asked if i still got free care and was told that i did, but from my experience with orange i rang back a couple of days later to double check & they confirmed that i was covered for the next 12 months :)

I am still on the Orange Talk60 package, I thought that also included Orange care for free.

I am often wrong though

Posted

When u upgrade u get to keep all the goodies that came 12months prior. Anything above the old talk 60 plan came with free care.

By the way, for all that do not know, Orange Care is free to registered businesses on YourPlan.

That's only true of "small" business users according to the computers. The company has to fit the small business critera!

So what is "the small business criteria"? I'm a one man business. Is that small enough? How do Orange define "small"?

(ok, I already know that they will have a different definition to me) :!:

PS: I'm away for a week's skiing now - look forward to catching up on all the new UK Update posts when I return - can this site cope with volume? - Hope so :!:

Smal businesses = 1-49 employees.

All limited companies which use the standard YourPlan packs should be entitled to this...
