Guest JackSF Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) I picked my san francisco up earlier today as I thought there was a good chance that my ismart sim that was in my pulse would work. The good news is that it works. I am now left with a problem, although I am sure the wise folk on here will point me to the answer!. When I switched on I did not get the usual text from o2 that sets up mms and data. I texted o2 on 202 and the response is that there was some kind of problem. Next step was to enter the setting manually. I used these. Name o2 APN mobile.o2.co.uk Username vertigo Password password MMSC http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 MMS proxy 193.113.200.195 MMS port 8080 MCC 234 MNC 10 This APN will not save (even though it allows you to seemingly save it). I have discovered that the problem occurs when you change the MCC OR MNC setting. The profile will save if you do not alter either of these settings. I assume that the problem is something to do with the way in which orange has customised the phone?. Edited September 23, 2010 by JackSF

But use the apns-conf.xml attached to this post.apns_conf.xml
Guest Frankish Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 I used an I smart in a htc tattoo and it only ever worked on 2g. Never 3g. That was locked to orange too!
Guest David Horvath Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 My Pulse was locked to T-Mobile UK and i'm using it with a turbosim in Hungary on Vodafone network with 2g/3g. It must be a settings thing.
Guest JackSF Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 zuccster Thank you for the reply. I have just rooted the phone. I downloaded an app called Astro in order to replace the apn file, sadly it will not allow me to replace it. I guess the app does not let you move/replace root files?. I am a bit new new to all this but technically competent generally.

Guest JackSF Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) Ok, I replaced the apns file in system\etc. Reset the apn to default, rebooted the phone and still no joy. EDIT Thanks artesa. I used a proggy called super manager and the file explorer app within it. Edited September 24, 2010 by JackSF

Guest JackSF Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 No joy means no joy, no worky!
Guest JackSF Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) Interestingly with the APN file provided and the Orange sim I got with the phone, data does not work either. I restored the original APN file and with the orange SIM data works as expected. It would seem there is some problem with the APN file provided? Edited September 24, 2010 by JackSF

The file I uploaded works on the T-Mobile Pulse (is there anyone here who isn't a Pulse refugee?). Without seeing tcpdump output I can't offer any further hints, sorry :-(
Guest Simon O Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 You might have to change the MCC and MNC in /data/local.prop See what it's set to. Sometimes changing them to ro.config.mcc=000 ro.config.mnc=00[/code]can remove any APN restrictions.
Guest Frankish Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 The question here is... Does the phone get 3G with standard apns and orange sim? Yes? Now does it get 3G with the same settings but with the iSmart sim in? I still think it's an iSmart Sim issue!!

Hmmmm, does that mean without a proper unlock there will be no data?
Guest Simon O Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 So...... With IsmartSIM and Orange SIM together, I get no 3G. Hmmmm, does that mean without a proper unlock there will be no data? I think it just means that the Ismart doesn't work with all Android devices. Can it be updated?
Guest JackSF Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 I think it just means that the Ismart doesn't work with all Android devices. Can it be updated? I do not think the one I have is updateable. So I need to find a device that works with the blade. I guess it is too early in the day for such a device or a proper unlock solution.
Guest Frankish Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Rebel Sim might work. Like i said i had the same problem with iSmartsim on HTC Tattoo on Orange. Even with an Orange sim in the iSmart did not allow 3G! Stupid iSmart!
