Hi guys, hoping someone can help. I installed launcher pro, but managed to mess something up and its now in a force close loop. How can i factory reset this phone, currently I cant get into any menu as the launcher wont boot.

Thanks in advance.

go into settings and then select privacy.

Hi, thanks for replying. What had happened was that I had installed pro launcher, and when I changed the number of grids or something, it caused it to crash. Every reboot would do the same so I couldnt get into any menus. Simple fix was to take it back to orange and get them to replace it ;-)

Is it possible to restore the phone to a "left the factory status" that is to say, it will run the first time setup app when you first start the phone.

Been playing with Paul's fantastic MCRi and now want to rebox it to give as a gift to someone, and want them to have the option to choose their own first time settings.

Is this possible on the MCRi? I've done a fastboot-windows erase userdata, and this works, but only to clear up the user data, not set it to run like a first time device.

Thanks greatly.

The 'fastboot erase userdata' is enough to make it re-do the setup wizard on next boot.

I tried that, and it doesn't give me the setup wizard on next boot. Can't see what I must be missing...

I've tried this (already have the MCRi r2 boot image on there) which should wipe the device completely:

  • Download the MCR r2 system image (mcri-system-blade-mcr-r2.tar.gz) and copy it to your microSD card as mcri-system.tar.gz. Put the microSD in your phone.
  • Turn device on in bootloader mode (power on with volume up)
  • From a command prompt, run 'fastboot-windows erase system'
  • From a command prompt, run 'fastboot-windows erase userdata'
  • From a command prompt, run 'fastboot-windows erase persist'
  • From a command prompt, run 'fastboot-windows reboot

Still doesn't give me the wizard B) Just want it to seem like a new phone when I give it to my mum. When she switches it on she'll have no idea how to change this stuff and she'll see the time as something weird and wonderful which was set when I was in a hurry to turn the phone on and just accepted the defaults

Having never touched Android before, I just wish I had a spare £99 so I could buy one of these just to play around with. Got lots to learn (mostly acronyms it seems like adb and apk and MCR etc!!)

Yep, a flash of R3 from stock along with the above erase userdata doen't prompt the user to setup at boot :(
