Hi,

So I did a de-branding of the Orange San Francisco, using Paul's method last night.

However soon after I tried to download an app from the market and it would start the download but be stuck there.

So did a few clear cache data for various goodle apps and factory reset, signed in with a second google account.

Now i get download unsuccessful, I cannot download any apps from the market.

Tried restoring the old.apps I backed up but also experiencing same issue.

Anyone able to download from the market app? Any ideas to get it to work?

All comments appreciated!

Some issues I also found with default apps, Voice recorder if you press menu it crashes the app by giving a FC error!

Currently installing apps by pushing them to /system/app , not the best solution but if I do factory reset it had the apps I want!

I used an alternative method, I used UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5 to root the device, and then replaced the app directory with the blade.app.r1 package...

Audio recorder works fine, and I'm able to download stuff from the market place without any problems.

I also used UniversalAndroot to root my phone, can you press menu button on the audio recorder if so do you get settings or Force Close?

I'm wondering if when I used flashboot and Paul's unsigned image it may have screwed it up for me!

Guess my plan didn't work, flashed stock boot image now it is stuck on the green android!

Just flashed Paul's modified version and it has worked again!

Maybe I did something wrong, but can we go back to stock boot?

Ok just did some checks, and it seems the app in paul's folder "MarketUpdater.apk" is 7KB where is the original is 10KB so replaced with original from backup and the market is now working correctly.

I have replaced the sound recorder, however it still gives me FC error, I do remember even before I de-branded that it also gave me FC error.

Will look another sound recorder to replace.

I've been looking around too but I can only find smaller versions of sound recorder that don't show up in the Market Place.

I will ask my contact at Orange if he knows anything about it

Afternoon lads,

Thought I'd post in this thread instead of starting another - I'm having major problems downloading from the android market (major problems= I can't!)

Only thing I've done to my san fran is unlock it.

Everything I try to download just hangs on 'Starting download...' I've searched the net and seen this is a very widespread problem but none of the possible fixes mentioned works. I've done a factory reset, clear the various caches, made sure I was using a gmail.com account etc etc.

As mentioned earlier my version of market updater is 8kb.

I pressume to start altering system files (if required to sort out this problem) I will need to root the phone?

I've also asked on another forum what size their market updater files are so I can see if not being able to download is definately related to the market updater size (no responses yet)

Can anyone on here let me know what theirs is?

I'd pull my hair out if I had any.....

I also have some issues downloading from the Marketplace using Paul's Rom but they are intermittent. I've had similar issues using a custom Rom on my Archos HT7 and on the stock T-Mobile Rom for the Pulse Mini. I just assumed they were par for the course, it would be great if we could eradicate them.

I could maybe understand it if I'd put another rom onto it but its still default orange

I had the same problem, wondered if it was the rooted ROM, but, tried on the wife's unrooted out-of-the box SF and still the same. Did a factory reset on hers and then created a Google account on the laptop, entered the details on phone and it worked first time. So, reset mine, created another account using laptop and bingo, market downloads working fine. Seems the account I created using the phone won't work.

Hi All,

Same here.

The freshly MoDaCo-ed phone with the r4 image didn want to accept my old gmail account. Same "Unsuccessful download" messages annoyed me to death.

I factory reset it several times... even I used my missis account. Didnt work until i create a new one. But even with the new one I have troubles sometimes. If you get the message "Unsuccessful download" ... cancel it and try again. It will work at 3rd or 4th attempt.

Have sente!

I've been having problems with downloading from Market as well....

Most of the time it's not downloading and suddenly it does download an app....is this a server side google problem?

I haven't changed anything on my mobile....

I'm trying to download an app, first it won't download for whatever reason. Then the thrird time it's started to download but now it's stuck on 21% and won't download further!!!

Trick seems to be to just keep trying to download. Last night it took me 6 attempts to download one app and a number of updates took 3 or 4 times each.

I think you may be SOL, just like me. I deleted lots of stuff, in various stages, but one of the last things I removed was Google Talk - I'd assumed that it was to do with a voice service, which I didn't need, but it turns out to be involved in the authentication process. Since removing it, I can no longer get further than "Starting download" in the Market. I've tried adding the Google Talk Service back by extracting it from the stock ROM image on MoDaCo, but to no avail. Indeed, that's made it worse, because I'm now getting errors from Google Apps Service crashing every so often.

I think I'm going to try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, I'll be reflashing it, I think. :-( Annoying because I was really liking it before this happened, and it's all my fault!
