Guest pawgero Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Hello, just purchased a new desire through Telstra. Had it for 2 weeks while away from home never tried to connect to wifi till i came home. Had tried numerous things to set up ad hoc network while away from home, got the thing to see the ad hoc, but got stuck on obtaining address Now with home wifi it too gets stuck on obtaining address tried upgrading downgrading ROM and radio's, various different ones, same problem Flashed back to shipped rom, still the same.. Is it possible the wifi came like that, or did i break it trying to zip an adhoc file to it? Its Hboot 0.83 slcd
Guest ceedee Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 I'd guess that if your Desire gets as far as "obtaining IP address" then it's wifi could be working fine but, for some reason, your router isn't allowing it to connect. Last time something similar happened to me, it turned out that my router's MAC filtering had mysteriously been enabled... Good luck!

But it did the exact same thing with the ad hoc running of the laptop.
Guest JohnintheUK Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 I have the same issue with my wifi at home. It also happens to my iPod Touch so I'm assuming it's a problem with the router (oddly, PCs and Xbox connect with no problem). It's easily fixed for me though by just setting a static IP address on the Desire and Touch. I'd give that a try and if it works you might want to download the 'Wifi Static' app from the Android Market. This app gets the device to auto switch configurations so you don't have to turn on and off static wifi manually when moving to a different wifi network.
Guest ManOfSteal Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Using MCR8 here and since I changed to this ROM I occasionally get the same thing happen on some open Wifi networks. Note that I can connect to those same networks usually with no problems (without any change been made either end).
